Protecting rims in the winter....

Okay, I'm going to pre-empt any comments of "buy steelies/winter rims" because I'm not doing it for two reasons: 1. Don't have the money 2. Don't have storage space for another set of wheels.

So, now that's out of the way, what's the best way to protect my rims from the winter? I've heard a few different methods.

1. Spray the rims with Pam. Reapply when it wears off.
2. Cover the rims with grease/petroleum jelly. Again, reapply when it wear off.
3. Get some sort of spray on stuff, (don't remember the name). Don't need to reapply.

Any tips or words of advice (besides getting winter rims).

Not sur ehow experienced you guys are with these in the winter....but Eagle's polished metal isn't worth a p1ss (as if bare metal is to begin with).

Yeah, I found that out last winter. I was good about washing my rims, but they still pitted a bit. I was able to clean the rims up with lots of wet sanding and polishing though.

I've tossed around the idea of having my rims chrome dipped.

I would have, but one of them was bent to ratsh!t. That's why I got the Eagles. Four of them were cheaper than one stocker.

do what I did Matt. Call around to the wrecking yards, I got a set of steelies for 100 bucks. Then a set of snow tires. really worth it. (I know you said no steelies, blah blah) but I would. And I imagine we can work something out for storage.

Yeah... I know I should. I just don't feel like spending the money. But I know it's worth it in the end. *sigh* As for storage, I'm sure if I get off my lazy ass and clean my garage, I can toss them in there.

I am in the same situation here, the only difference is that I have to drive around all winter with my 17" chrome rims on the car. Should I do the same things as Slim, or are there different solutions for chrome wheels?

i got my stock ones on winter rims... if you have rough winters, i'd really suggest finding some steelies or other wheels that would do the trick.
