And to think...................
Bad a** car that is only going to get better. I know in 2005 they add the scoops and increase the hp too. and in 2007 the whole car gets reworked-same year some are saying the return of the Camaro will be.
Have to say, build quailty is first rate on that sucker and it puts almost all of US GM cars to shame. Makes me wonder why they priced the Bonnie more than the GTO, I'll take a LS1 powered GTO over the underpowered 4.6 in the Bonn anytime and for less cash too. Yeah I know the Bonn is lux. but how do you top the stuff the GTO has, wicked audio system, cool interior with just as much bling as a bonn. And all for less than a "decent" RX-8, and as much as the new Maxima SE's and with more go than a 350Z. I love the new GTO |

I think someone is caught up in the hype...read the magazines...compare the options...compare the performance. The GTO is just not what it should be. Price is too high. Braking is too slow. Acceleration and handling aren't that impressive either. I just don't understand why we have to get a GTO that is based on such an old platform. What year did the Monaro start? 97? IIRC. This car weighs 3800lbs...that's crazy. My neighbor has a 92 3000GT that weighs 3800lbs. That thing is twin turbo, all wheel drive, and big as a house. Why GM? Why? Make it lighter, make it faster, make it cheaper, make it with options...make it competitive with our other options!

The only option I would miss is a HUD. I love those, and after owning my GTP I don't think I could live without it. It's awesome.

I don't get the impression of "muscle car" from this GTO. It doesn't have that look. It looks more like a sports coupe. |

What should a newer musclecar look like? Either way, it's supposed to be a musclecar, not a sports coupe. |

I don't think it is a muscle car because it wasn't designed to be a muscle car.

You are wrong, it was originally a muscle car and it's return is as a muscle car. End of story. You can call it an economy car or a luxury car or whatever you want. Fact remains that it is and is marketed to be a muscle car. |

The GTO is just a rebadged Munaro. This car wasn't originally designed to be a muscle car. I don't think the designers had "muscle car" in their minds. Like i've said, it doesn't give me the impression of muscle car. Performance car, yes. Muscle car, no.
The camaro/firebird does look like a muscle car. Last edited by Vintalage; 11-11-2003 at 02:43 PM. |

I think it's a Lincoln Towncar badged Monaro then badged GTO. Wait.... it's still the return of the original musclecar huh? Performance car? Yes. Musclecar? Yes. 1HP per cubic inch? Naw... that sounds nothing like any Musclecar I have ever heard of. Imagine if they took the original idea of the GTO then modernized it, what would they have.... wait.... hmmm.... ![]() |

Reading this thread just proves that no matter what any company does, there will be haters. ![]() You can't please everyone, but listening to most of the people complaining, I bet they've never even sat in a GTO. How the hell can you criticize a car you haven't even been in for a ride or to check out?? That's just retarded. And as far as people saying it's not the old GTO, they're right. It's not a big block beast that can barely manage 14s in the 1/4, it's faster than that and even handles better I bet, even with more weight and all. And it is interior quality is up there with the European automakers apparently. The old one was just a "small" cheap car with a huge engine dropped in it. As much as many people wanna see GM drop an LS1 in a Cavy, that **** won't fly anymore. So be quiet and happy that at least GM is starting to bring back RWD V8 cars that can compete. Perhaps they'll just keep making underpowered FWD v6 family car grocery getters, because that seems to be an easy market to please. ![]() I'm so sick and tired of people saying it's nothing like the old GTO. This thing is better in every way by a lot, except the price, but if you can't pay then you can't play these days with any car, as if they made a GTO like the old one, you'd just get raped on insurance and the thing would be of crappy quality and everyone would bitch about that. I agree with most of what you are saying, however I haven't seen many people critize the car in that it's not the old GTO, most of them are saying it doesn't have a sunroof, HUD and doesn't run low 12's etc... They fail to realize the cars potential and don't understand the 1/4 times only tell part of the story about how the car really accelerates anyway. Keep in mind, Impala SS's with the old LT1 are known to DUST 5-speed 99 and newer Mustang GT's... now think of that with 350HP. This is a serious street machine, every bit worthy of the GTO badge. |

nods
Bout time somebody went off here
Its amazing how people complain about everything whether it be a stupid little option they think the car "should" have or in thier minds its not the car it "should" be because they have the perfect idea of what the car should be everybody else is wrong even if you don't have the money to buy and never will buy one anyway because you only have enough to buy a small 4-door econo car. Man, its like bi*tching about the GA replacement. The G6 will have a better platform, less cladding, more options, better engines with more power than the GA ever had and all you do is b*tch about it. Then if you look at the Solstice thread I posted people b*tched about that too. No no, the car should look like or be like this. Just be happy GM/Pontiac is putting cars like the GTO, G6,and Solstice in the showrooms instead of being a boring Toyota like company that I hope Pontiac will never become. |

Only complaint I have is that they don't make a RWD V8 car for less than $26,000 like they used to, they need to put something in the place of the Camaro and Trans Am.
GTO is a great car, I'd love to own one, but doesn't fit the killer bang for the buck category that GM has always dominated in, but the new GTO wasn't supposed to be that so I am not saying that it should be. Just saying it would be nice for them to make a RWD V8 car with 300+HP for less than $26,000 again. Hopefully GM is just ****ing the gun here and it about to fire of some more nice street machines and blow away everyone else. |
