"What the!!!" THX certified cars???

http://www.thx.com/mod/products/carAudio.html
THX is now certifying cars (well car actually only the 2003 Lincolin LS is certified so car) they have an application for car manufactures to fill out but I wonder if they would certify an individual car like they do theaters?
It's the best non-controversial topic I have seen in a while so kill me!!

Yeah, I noticed that the '03 LS was THX certified so I know the sound system in that car must be good. It has got to be better than bose. Every car manufactuer should do this. Then we could get some good audio from the factory.

Does anyone notice how there are no THX certified Bose speakers in Home audio?

I'm also noticing alot more THX certified computer audio which is great. Like this Creative Gigaworks S750 7.1 Speaker system.

http://us.creative.com/products/prod...3&product=9306

It pushes 700 watts of power with the sub pushing 210 watts.

Amazing. That's my kind of computer audio.

THX as lost its market value. Lucas actually sold the name last year because of this, but I can't remember who owns it now. It doesn't mean anything anyway, some of the best speakers/hi-fi in the world do not carry the "THX" badge.

True High end stuido speakers don't even bother. The reason I was even at their site was because I heard that a theater couldn't be THX certified if it had stadium seating. (I know of only one here in Orlando that is THX certified Pleasure Island AMC 24)
But I couldn't find any specs like that. I know that there are crazy things like no dumsters on the outside walls (garbage trucks make a lot of noise) Oh well thought it was interesting.

Off Topic. but movie theaters need more than just stadium seating to be THX certified. You are going to be amused by this, but just to name a few things that are considered...........

A/C, Heat Vent placement in ceiling
Placement of all speakers in the auditorium
Fabric and sound deadening matierials used in/on walls
The amps and equipment used to push the speakers

These are just a few things and THX never went over too well in the theaters, it was just too expensive, time consuming and less involved than Dolby Digital, DTS and Sony digital surround sound systems.

I've never been in a THX theater before so I don't know what i'm missing. Although I have an idea. The sound in the theaters I go to is terrible. There is just no real bass present.

Would you guys buy a THX receiver?

I meant to say that if you have stadium seating you can't be THX certified. You guys think these specs are bad you should talk to an accustition when they design a recording studio they make a lot of money fixing mistakes and finding accustic problems that most people wouldn't notice.

What a gag.

Sure - they paid a bunch of money and got to display the THX logo. They HAD to do SOMETHING, I mean c'mon, Lexus has a Mark Levinson system for cryin' out loud!! As if ML actually did anything but maybe consult a little.

In the begining, THX certs carried a lot of weight. They dictated dispersion patterns, pfrequency response, and several other parameters for theater systems. Like so many good things gfot popular, it went the way of the almighty dollar....

And THX hell - you ever seen Bose compared to anything else PERIOD, much less certified by anyone other than themselves? No? Hmmmm....

I am saying that in a Bose store, you'll never see anything else in a head to head comparo. I'm saying that in order for another store to carry Bose, it must have it'as own display space, seperate from anything else. Any shelf space dedicated to Bose MUST be at the end of a row, using an "approved" Bose display setup. I'm saying that you'll never see Bose compared head to head with anything else in a maazine review, all Bose reviews are of Bose equipment alone - Bose is THE ONLY company to have ever successfully sued Consumer Reports, because a head-to-head was conducted, and negative remarks were made about the Bose product under review.

Now why d'ya' s'pose that is?

Best f*ckin' marketing company since Harley Davidson, maybe the best ever. Has 1/2 the audio world (that would be the undereducated and tone deaf 1/2) convinced they are the best thing ever to produce sound waves, and sells a 3rd rate product at retail prices and profit margins that would make OPEC blush.

Should I continue?

Oddly enough, most of their car systems, for GM, Nissan, and others, aren't all that bad. Of course, that's in comparison to most stock stuff, which is REALLY bad.... And for what they charge for those systems?!

Eh, guess it's not THAT bad - the Mark Levinson sysem is a $4000 option on a Lexus.

Listen to the Bose system in a '95-'00 Mazda Millienia. That system is the worst system I have heard from bose. It sounds worse than the Monsoon. No bass, no highs. They did improve the sound system in the 2001+ Millienias. They added a subwoofer. Still, wasn't that good. Just ok.

Yup. Only company to do so successfully. :sigh:

Bose is also the ONLY company in the entire U.S. (or the world, if you count international companies that do business in the U.S.) that thought to get a Grandfather Clause to the law passed in the 70's regarding fixed prices. Since they had a fixed price policy in effect for their retailers before the law was passed, they got an exclusion - the ONLY company that thought to do so. Any discounts you see on Bose at any store are factory authorized, and are offered by all Bose dealers.

"Better sound through research". Hmm. How about, "Better profit margins through legal maneuvering".

I just can't believe people still fall for it!!
