What is this? A minivan/suv? Ugly. The taillights look like the new '04 durango.

those are their new minivans... not SUV's... i thought GM was going to widen their minivans, but those look like the current Chevy Venture and Pontiac Montana with Buick and Saturn front ends... wonder if those are real pics...

Blech. It looks like an SUV with a minivan's sliding door.

The front end of the Buick kinda reminds me of an Hyundai in a weird kind of way.

or 4 different names... example: Chevy TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, Isuzu Ascender...you could still include the Olds Bravada but that ends production sometime next year... another example: Ford Explorer, Mercury Mountaineer, Lincoln Aviator... and yet another: Ford Escape, Mazda Tribute, and Mercury Mariner... it saves money, but at least these cars are starting to have their own identity unlike in the 80's... although the two pictured above seem to only differentiate the grill, most cars that are platform twins have their own look nowadays...

But does the new ES300 look anything like the Camry? Inside and out. Nope.

whatever. An avalon is about the same as a Camry anyway, just priced more.

And YES the ES 300 and the Camry look the same to me.

Not saying it's bad... but it's true.

^^^they are way different cars on the inside, my mom just bought an ES300...for the price (her's was slightly used) i'd rather be in the lexus, there are major differences between the two

but you cant argue that they dont look the same!

Yeah, in the front, they look quite similar. In the rear, barely.

The differences are luxury options only.

The engine, transmission and chassis are EXACTLY the same.

A good friend of mine ought a fully loaded Camry over the Lexus ES300 because she realized they drove exactly the same but the Camry wash cheaper and she didn't want some of the extra luxury features in the ES.

She has a very rich friend that is some type of "head manager guy" (as she describes him) that works for Toyota so she got a HUGE discount on the car.

Oh come on... be honest... it's the same car and we both know it. That's like saying the late 90's Maxima and the late 90's Infinity I30 look completley different.

The differences are so minor you'd have to look at it a for a few seconds to tell the difference, at a casual glance you couldn't tell if you saw a Lexus or a Camry.

BTW I like the Camry. Just needs more umph to keep up with the Maxima, but the Camry looks better, and the Camry is more cappable than ever before. I was impressed driving it.

Ya, a lot of companies do this. And Mike's right.. you can group the Avalon/Camry/ES 300 all together, too.

How about the Honda Pilot and Acura MDX, same ****.

What about the Toyota Land Cruiser/Lexus LS470? ($10,000 diffference, they look exactly the same).

I mean all the major companies do it. Hell the Audis look like the VWs and vice-versa. It's just that GM does it for a whole bunch of lines because they bought so many companies over time, and if they get rid of the lines it ****es off a bunch of people that live by brand recognition. That's aside from the fact that it makes the company look weaker.

Anyway, as far as I can tell, GM is the only company that has all it's luxury version cars look completely different from the other cars in the company, except the Escalade, which was a quick move to get money from Bling lovers and improve the Cadillac name IMO. But hell, aside from that, Cadillacs even got their own engines, the Northstar (although used in Olds too, but different version) and the 3.2L and 3.6L v6. And even the Escalade got the 345 hp version of the 6.0L which I think none of the other Tahoes/Yukons got, plus the AWD drivetrain, and with the restyle they have their own Cadillac look and everything all the way down to the interior.
