Best Buy Special

Alright I recieved "X" amount in Best Buy gift cards, and being an employee I figure I will buy my head unit there. So as to not give away the discount I recieve (never know who is watching

) I can spend roughly $500 retail, with out installation.

Brand Choices are:

Kenwood
JVC
Pioneer

I know we sell Sony... but ... gross.

Right now I really like the Pioneer 8500 and 7500.

Recomendations anyone?

JVC is up there with Sony IMO, belongs in the home not in the car..

Pioneer, Kenwood, Alpine

I have a pioneer dehp-835R from 1997 thats top notch and still going strong in cavingman's car.. In my car I have the kenwood 869, its great

For those of you that don't know he gets 5% over cost which is about half price for car-fi stuff. Car Audio has the biggest mark ups in the whole store. Computers has the least, but has the highest revenues! There ya go Free03Gt...Now you didn't tell them an ex employee told everyone!

If you can get your hands on a Pioneer P9400 or a Premier P940 I'd definitely say go with that.

I just picked up a new Pioneer Premier P940 last week and all I can say is the head unit is amazing. So many features and different way's to tweak the sound, it totally blows that monsoon head unit away. And as of right now I'm just running it with the stock amp and speakers.

I've gone to several best buy stores and from what they've told me, they carry the P9400, but it's a special order item.

So if you want to check the head unit out, pm me and we can meet up. Otherwise, good luck with whatever you decide to go with.

Unfortunetely special order items involve alot of work to get my employee discount. You basically have to pay upfront, full price then return it and yada yada yada.

Right now it looks like the 8500, but I am curious, the 7500 does not have the flip down like the 8500 has does it?

Ok I have worked with both Pioneer units in Question. The 7500 and the 8500 are the same with the exception that the 8500 had the flip down face. My friend has the 7400 last years model and it is great. I HAD the 8400 model last years and i HAD the 8500 for about a month but never took it out of the box. there is one thing i noticed that was different. they have different screens. i now that is true on the 7400 and 8400 not sure on the 75 and 85 models. but either way you go BOTH are great systems. just make sure that you pull the face plate off when you park it at the mall. Dont want to get called while at work to let you know your car was just broken into.

I sell both and have seen a few 8400 and 8500 come back with different problems, so I suggest the 7400. Peace, Lee

I would recomend against the 8500, only because when it's open I can't read the bottom display so it is useless for me.

When the player is open you really dont need to see the bottom display all it showes is the time. all the fun stuff is on organic display. i loved mine. lit up the interior a good bit too.

I work also work at Best Buy and ill tell everybody the discount we get is bad ass on car audio its works out to like basically 50 percent off or more on most stuff and alot of time your right they dont like you using gift cards because they think you stole them from people as you check them out thats the problem weve been having at my store (148). Nothing Sony for me!

Just picked up:

Rockford Fosgate Component 5 1/4" with Tweeters for the front
Rockford Fosgate Component 6X9 for the rear

Head unit is undecided, it is either a brand new 7500 or I have a deal pending on a year old 8400

From my understanding there is little differenc between the 8400 and the 8500?
