Question Specs on an early-90s Taurus SHO?

Anybody know the specs on an early 90s Taurus SHO? I've seen that somebody on the board has one and says it runs mid-14s or something, but I was just curious to get the exact specs, since I cant seem to find them anywhere on the net.

Why I'm asking is that a guy with a Taurus SHO w/ dual flowmasters hit up my friend with a 99GASE (3.4 V6 w/ASE chip, single Focuz muffler, and WAI) to run for $100 bucks. The Taurus sounds friggin krazy. Its louder than a local Z28 with a Borla setup. I told my buddy that the SHO will prolly beat him, but he's determined to show it up.

High 14's/low 15's with the 5-speed if it is in great shape and stock.

220HP.

If he has an automatic relax. If he has a 5-speed, re-consider the race.

The Grand Am WILL lose that race. Tell your friend to call it off.

I don't know anything about the automatic SHO, but I do know someone who has a 5speed SHO and ran low 14's with minor work. A 5speed SHO with dual flowmasters will run around 14.8 @ 93mph.

I had a 1992 Taurus SHO 5sp manuel. It was a great car. I could pin the needle at 140mph and it still wanted to accelerate a little bit. To be honest There really aren't all that fast but, yes they can be a Grand Am GT. It's funny because my SHO is the reason I have my GAGT. I had the SHO when I lived in California. I joined the Air Force in 2000 and got shipped to Alaska. I was trippin that I would get to Alaska and need a 4x4 so I traded in the SHO for a piece of ass 1996 Ford Explorer 5.0 all wheel drive. Boy what a mistake that was!! I wanted to get rid of the Explorer and get another 4DSC so I looked and looked for another SHO. I couldn't find one but did discover the GAGT1. Thanks for being patient and reading my gay ass story.

I've seen the 5-speeds run faster than that stock even.

The auto is a joke in my book, if you can find an automatic sho with the transmission still working.

yeah those auto trannys do have problems, they ran to hot. The automatic SHO is a 3.2 liter and the 5 spd is a 3.0 liter. 1993 was the first year the SHO was available in an automatic. The 1993 was also the first to incorporate the stock wing and the Dual exhaust tips sticking out of the rear as opposed to the dual exhaust tip tucking under the bumper as the 1992 and older SHO's
had. They are decently quick for a stock vehicle for the 1990's. To bad the last year for the older body style was a 1995.

I have no idea if it is 5spd or auto. It had a V8 badge on the side. So they are 3.0/3.2 V8s or what? This one has huge dual exhaust tips, a nice spoiler, and a ground effects kit that made it look really aggressive. Damn nice car, actually. Thanks for the info, guys.

oh yeah, your probably talking about a 1996 thru 1998. I belive the 1998 was the last year for the SHO. These years had the V8 motor and atuomatic was the only option. The older body style 1989 thru 1995 says 24 Valve DOHC on the side. That's the 220hp V-6 in action.

Actually, I think its one of the 89-95s, cuz a friend of mine has a 93 Taurus and its the same body as the SHO I'm referring to. Maybe the guy just tossed a V8 badge on it.

SHO's get great gas mileage too, what's it pulling like 8mpg. My gf has a taurus so i'm on that car club forum also, there's not much enthusiasm for the SHO's, they suck mad air and as such, suck mad fuel to get the power they put out.

good luck with that race.

If he's throwing on badges, better look under the hood. Might just be a Taurus LX with the Vulcan 3.0 with a terrifying 145HP. (I know, my probe has the Vulcan 3.0)

Think about it this way. Why would he offer 100 to race a gase if he was totally lying about his engine and why if he was lying about his engine, would he try to scare off the competition with a fake v8 sticker, the guy would never pull in any money.

Maybe he did a complete engine swap? Who knows, I just think he's pretty confident and the response above about him probably lying is evidence to what he's doing is working because if he does have what he says he does then he's a sleeper right in your face telling you what he has but you just dont believe him because it's a ford taurus. Not only will you lose, but you'll look stupid for having raced someone telling you straight up how overpowered you are (not that something lighter couldn't be faster with less hp and torque). I think the SE is gonna lose, even if it's not a V8 under there.

To clear a few things up....

89-92: 3.0 V6 MTX only
93-95: 3.0 V6 MTX and 3.2 V6 ATX (94-95 ATX transmissions were WAY stronger than the 93's)
96-99: 3.4 V8 ATX only

You guys are right in the vicinity on the MTX times but the ATX's are quicker than you think. Most healthy ones run mid to low 15's stock. Case in point, I ran 15.6 with heavy arse 17" wheels on a hot very humid day. My only "performance" mod is a K&N. From a stop it wil be closer but if it's from a roll the SHO will walk you every time.

A V8 swap into the 89-95 cars is impossible and not really worth the thought because the V8 is only rated at 15 more HP (V6=220 / V8=235).

BTW, I raced my wife in her GAGT; beat her off the line and in the long run. You won't get smoked but I do believe you will lose.

Well thanks for all the detailed info, guys! My friend with the SE still wants to run the SHO, even though I told him that he'll prolly get beat. The guy with the Taurus is pretty ****y, and I'm sure he's sportin the V8 badge to intimidate people a bit more. Oh well, my friends gonna lose $100. Thanks again

Teach your wife to drive. I have beaten more than 3 SHO automatics, and the last SHO automatic I beat in the GAGT literally started smoking badly, transmission fluid leak... I bet he was angry since he had temp tags (just bought it)
