JL or Alpine?

OK, well a while back I had posted an Alpine or Infinity thread, well that ship has sailed and with me getting more hours at work I will have more money to spend on my set up, my question is, would you go with 2 12" Alpine Type R subs in a ported box with an MTX 942D amp running them, or 2 12" JL Audio 12w3v2 subs with a JL 500/1 amp running them? Money is not the issue, because either way the set ups come pretty close, I just want a good sound, I have heard great things about the Type Rs, but I mean come on, it is JL, any recommendations would be appretiated, thanks.

I have JL amps and subs. I had 12's in the GA. I'm sure you heard it. I have 10's in the Z powered by the 500/1 amp.
They sound really good. You can come by anytime to listen to them.

Yeah, JL!

Alpine makes good head units, and mobile video. Subs/amps blow.

i would have went with alpine, but i don't really care for JL stuff. their amps are pretty nice, but not worth the price in my opinion. and the same set up mjhurley1 has may not sound as good in your GA. just my 2 cents.

what's up illsmokeyou? we always keep having the argument don't we

Well I also heard Mikes system in his GA, he had 2 12" 12w3's and it sounded really clear and accurate with the bass, it sounded good in the Z too, but I was comparing it to his GA set up...I priced the two systems and they came out to the same price pretty much, maybe a difference of $100.

what made you narrow down to those 2? if money really isn't an issue go look at the kicker solo x. they started making them in 10s and 12s. and they'll handle anything you want to throw at them . but i like kicker stuff. i've got a solo baric in my truck and a comp vr in my girlfriends car. most of the comp vr stuff isnt the best in the world, but i couldn't afford the 18" solo x ::

A buddy of mine has an JL 8w 7 powered by a JL 250/1, and it
sounds incredible, even in the increased air space of his
Mountaineer. His advice is to go with a "vented" box, not ported.
He installs for a local audio shop. They sell JL, Alpine, and MTX.
JL is still their best seller. I run 2 10w0's off of a 500/5, and it
sounds great, but I am planning to switch over to the 8w7.
Also the box takes up very little room campared to a 2 12's box.
Not to bash, but there is a reason they don't sell Kicker.
For box dimensions on w7's or w3's visit JL 's website, they also
list the optimal power rating for each.

first of all i'm not flaming, just going to present an argument. i'm not trying to start a war, just read it with an open mind.

why don't they sell kicker?? i like kicker better than i do JL. JL just comes across as ****y to me. their amps are pretty nice i will say that just for the fact that they give the same amount of power no matter how many volts you feed them or the ohm load they see. but other than that there's nothing that blows my dress up. the W7s are a pretty good speaker, i will admit that too. but just put a speaker spec sheet in front of you for both comparable models and look. they're about the same. and before anyone says that the JL will take more than what they're rated at......so will the kicker . i'm not trying to bash on anyones choice in equipment. i've met alot of people that don't like kicker. doesn't really bother me i dont guess. but some people use other's bad experiences as a judging tool on products. i know a guy that used to own a shop that sold JL, he had 12 12s in a custom mazda pickup as a demo and i will say that that truck was awesome. every amp and sub in there was JL. but on the other hand i've known of people having some bad experiences with JL. i don't hold that against JL, sometimes a few bad apples slip out the door.

lets say johnnie from down the street blew his 2 kicker comp vr subs. he downs and bashes on kicker every chance he gets from that day on. you, as a friend, go along with him in his judgement and hatred toward kicker. but what little johnnie neglected to tell you was that he had 800 watts going each of those 300 (numbers out of the air) watt subs and he played it as loud as it would go all the time. and we can use the same scenario for JL.

i've owned 1 JL sub before. i was 16 and it was my first system. i don't remember what kind of sub it was or what kind of amp i had. i do remember the amp was an MTX. and at the time hell yeah, i was bumpin. i had a loud ass system, but looking back the headunit sucked, the amp sucked and the sub sucked , the WHOLE SYSTEM SUCKED. i used a couple other subs after that one and i went to kicker about 3 years ago and they haven't done me wrong yet. and the success stories out weigh the bad stories, but again, same can be said about JL for everyone else.

not trying to start a major name calling argument, just stating an opinion.

, one other thing. i liked JL even less until illsmokeyou kind of convinced me to go look at the stuff on their website. so i've warmed up to them a little . and asking opinion about car audio equipment starts arguments like asking ford, dodge, or chevy

Word. I've had an assortment of subs to date, and have to say I've enjoyed my JL12w3v2's the most.

And I no longer like American cars

off topic kinda will two jl 12's and a jl 500/1 amp run smoothly on the GA without dimming the lights or other problems.
