Not to sound like a newbie, but how do you measure spl? I have a new system and was wondering if there was a cheap way to know how hard I'm thumping down the street . Sorry to interrupt but I figured you would know! Thanks!

i did a 165.5 on a really gay mic..totally bogus..on an accurate linear X i would be 150-155 db's..there are no accurate mics up here past 150 db's so im screwed..lets just say im over 150

Those Type-R's are pretty good. Dont sound too bad. I got a friend hitting a little over 150 db with 2 12" alpine Type-r's .

Ya, I imagine at full power with a little tweaking I should be able to get near there.

But the amp is getting tired. Every once and a while after working it real hard my car has a good odor of ozone.

Yep i dont see any reason why you wouldnt be near there. Hes been tweaking his for a while now, i think hes gone thru 3 boxes.

Not too sure what amp hes using but its pretty good sized. Ouch sounds like times getting close for a new amp.

I would like to know how you guy's are measuring these things. Doors open or closed? At the dash or where?

Not to be a prick, but some of those numbers are awefully high....

I hit 140 db with 1 JL 10W6 and a PPI 2240 amp. That was with the globe that USAC uses and the little microphone condom that takes a couple db away.

Well...I had my doors shut (windows up), the USAC judge placed the mic with the globe around it and the mic condom on it down in the right passenger footwell...basically under the dash.

Mine was doors shut, windows up, Mic was stuck to the windshield pointed toward where the dash and windsheild meet.

You two have somewhat believable #'s, although 140 is pretty high for a single 10w6. It's the high 140's and mid 150's I see claimed all over here that don't add up to me.

Not flaming anyone, just curious. 150 ANYTHING is incredible in a sedan with the subs in the trunk, no matter what they are.

Ok, since no one bothered to explain this to me... I Macgyvered a spl measuring device myself out of a karaeoke machine, an ohm meter, some chicken wire, and two sticks of Doublemint gum. So far I have about 192.3 with 1 JL 10WO. That sound right?
Just figured I'd tease since no one would help me out... enjoy your thread, bassheads

yeah I agree with you amigrand..many say 150's isnt much for 4 12's..just shows how much they know really..the meter here is certified to 150, and is about as low as a linear X..so its not a forgiving meter..and when your tuned to 33 hz for spl..that makes for a really low burp..i topped out the meter at 150 db's with a 40 hz tone..which is very low..i need to get it on a meter that is certified above 150..I am guessing 153-154..
