Check Tire Pressure Light???

I never really noticed this but on the far right lower corner of our guage cluster there is a check tire pres light, and a bunch of has marks above it. Does the computer actually moniter that, i dont see how cause there is no sensor in the wheel.

I think it's a wired sensor. I don't know where the placement is. I belive there is a sensor in each wheel. And it sure does work, when one of my tires began to lose a air on my '99 alero, I heard a chime and the light poped on. It's a very good feature. I wonder why the Grand ams don't have it anymore.

Nahhhh I was told the PCM measures the difference in the abs sensors and if they are off a certain spec going a consistant speed for a certain amount of time the pcm sees a low tire pressure. I guess a flatter tire spins slower than a FULLY inflated
tire. It had worked a couple times for me and each time it came on it was RIGHT. My friend that works at PONTIAC told me the tire has to be about 10 to 18psi lower than the others though.

i think because it began to just throw lights and it was annoying to people that had it cause when they had there tires rotated an changed it would go off..or somethig along those lines

BMbyle is right Readings are taken from the abs wheel speed sensors and if one of the wheels is out of spec then the light will pop on. A tire with low pressure would rotate slower than one fully inflated When it comes on i cant remember for that particular car but theres either a button on the dash, in the glovebox, or over on the passenger side in the fusebox theres a reset button.

Yeah, i dont caare for that at all. Mine will go off. and I will be like cool that saved me from something bad. So i go check all the tires and they are all at 32psi. So now i have to reset that light. In a years time I probly had this go off like 6 times. I dont know about those hashes they never lit up or anything.
