Blue HVAC finally!

I finally got it all working, after burning out some LEDs and then realizing, oops, I forgot a resistor... Here is the first pic of the set, Im still putting things back together and have to get the rest of the clear knobs back in after adjusting them to look right, but its an idea of the final product. I also am going to be posting a "how to" with fairly detailed pics for anyone who wants to tackle this project... I love the result, and Im sure anyone doing lighting mods will like what happens when you do this.

Yup, it was the grey wire, I should have known that from all of Iceman's LED posts... normally with all my other LEDs I dont put a resistor in the wire, I just put it right on the LED, but it wouldnt work for this project... thanks though, worked like a champ!

I used a 470 ohm resistor... Im thinking down to 300 ohms will work ok, Ill have to do the math later... the LEDs arent as bright as the ones in my doors, and I want it all to be pretty eual, so Ill play with that later and see what happens, maybe even put a variable resistor in there or something so I can mess with it easier... For now though Im just happy that it works

Looks great, I did the same thing in my car its not an easy project and its time consuming but the end result makes you happy. A 300 ohm resistor will work but your led will burn out faster thats all.

word to your mom... 300-350, somewhere in that range should give me the brightness I want, and if I have to change out the LEDs... well, Ive done it a few times now after blowing them out once and putting some in backwards, its about a half hour job now to do the whole thing

dude, those do look hella sweet!

i have blue knobs on my work van, its a 00 chevy conversion... they two are backwords inside..so that mod would ahve to be done again...

they are smaller, but they are blue anyways...

but i want the blue during the day, not clear... so i would have to paint them anyways, TESTORS (model) paint makes a translucent paint... that ive used on other stuff... it works well, but i agree, the blue led will creat a deep blue glow! i am gonna do the led as well, but also paint them translucent blue...

Thanks for the pic magyver, Ill use that to illustrate what I mean about the mod for the knob later on tonite. And I imagine you could paint them and do the LEDs, therefore getting the color you want and not having the yellow light problem. Do you happen to have a part number for that knob? It might look better than the ones Im using now, Im going to be trying out a few from different vehicles to get the best one.
