What for a new car?

As much as i hate this, it looks like ill be leaving all this glory soon. My car was hit and is probably a goner,,, so my question is this... i have about 20,000 to spend. not much more if any. Now, i know this is going to sound like some little kid dependent on his parents, but my dad offered to help me, but will not help if i get used. he doesnt trust used cars. never has. Also, this car will be in my name,,, my first (GAGT) was in his, so being 20, i have to get something that wont eat me alive on insurance. Any ideas? So far looks like the Mazda 3 with leather, sunroof, 6 disc in dash changer, steerinwheel controls, HIDs, abs, tire pressure monitor, side impact and front and rear head curtain airbags, 2.3L 160 HP 150 lb ft torque with a 5 speed is the winner. the car is pretty lite to... around 2800 lbs. All this is touching right at 20k

Not sure if the Ion Redline is out yet, but that sucker looked pretty cool, and was putting out some nice power. I think the sticker is right around 20k too. Might be something to look at.

Ion Redline is already out. I have seen it already.
Do you want a 2 door or 4 door? If you decide on that first, I think it would be easier.

the only thing with a 2 door, is short of the GA, any 2 door is going to be considered a sports coupe or something of the sort to any insurance company. I think im stuck with a 4 door, but that isnt really a totally bad thing... they really are more useful. If you can think of a 2 door that wont rape me on insurance, no offence, but other then the ION, (the inside SUCKS in quality and looks), im all up for it

if u really want a 2door, the VW GTi(s) come(s) in both 4door and 2door hatchbacks. nice cars if you can dig the plain exterior and they are just under $20K!

i would like a mazda 6. The 3 will be easier to get, but i would like a mazda 6 with a v6 and a manual best of all. but the thing with a 6 is i would wanna get one ptretty maxed out. My grand am spoiled me. I want leather, sunroof, and a good sound system. those things get the price up to around 25. i might be able to do that. thing is i dont know how much money i will be getting for the accident. I am going to call the insurance company monday to get the status on my car. Maybe i will know then if they are going to try to total it or what.

Another thing about the 6 that concerns me... does it look more like an old persons car than the 3? I know the 3 is going to have a hell of alot of aftermarket soon.

if anything, you should be hoping it doesnt get totalled out, cuz if so, you may be gettin back a very very small amount of cash, like I did when mine was totalled.

If ur car does end up being a total, the SRT-4 is a good deal for the cash, and the insurance for them is about the same as a 4-door neon. Just hope you can fit in the dinky seats and dont count on carrying anybody in the backseats!
