Question Sunroof rattle

Someone please help me out with this, it is something that annoys me badly. Today I just installed my audio system and there is rattle EVERYWHERE.... which if it is on the outside it is fine for now, but my major problem is the rattle on the inside. Especially the sunroof cover that slides back and forth. It rattles worst than I have ever heard... Anyone know how to stop it or atleast quiet it down?

where's it vibrating at? when it's rattling take your hand and push on parts all around it to see the main source. when you find it find a way that you can lodge it to keep it from moving up and down. whether it be some felt pads or a piece of paper you stick up there. for the rest of the rattles dynamat works wonders

what all does your system consist of?

If I push down (toward the floor) on the sunroof cover the sound stops.... I just didn't know what to put in between the cover and the glass, maybe like a thick foam block or something?! I deffinently need dynamat, but i just got the car so that has to wait.

Anyways, I have 2 15" Pioneer subs.... 600.1 JBL amplifier, and a pioneer premier 840MP. I haven't done anything to my highs yet.

Talking

You have 2 15's and a 600 W Amp and you are complaining about some rattles !!!!!!!!! I would imagine that you have alot of rattles that has got to be one of the funniest things I have read in a long time.

So anywho on to your question since it is a moving part it's kinda hard to mount it more firmly to the frame of the car but if it is slid back does it rattle? is there enough clearnce on the top side to lay a couple pieces of dynamat to at least make it heavier. Seeing as how I don't have a sunroof I can't actually look at the problem so I can't help much.
this is the second time I have wirtten this reply and I am still laughing !

As she stated in her first question,She has rattle EVERYWHERE!
But its just the inside rattle that shes worried about now, which in turn is the sunroof slide cover thing. ive suggested dynamating the top of it where the sunroof and the cover touches. Does any body think this would work or not?

check to make sure its actually the sunroof, and not the dome light fixture. alot of people have a problem with that rattling too.

I am the one that installed most of the system, and all i did was slide the box (5 cu.ft,dual chambered)through the back seat opening after taking the whole back seat out even with subs, amp, and cap all mounted on the box. U grand am owners are so lucky to have a huge opening like that!!

So if it is the dome light then how do you stop it?

measurements on box? I dont see how you got the needed height for 15s. for my 6 cuft box, passenger seat and rear seat were removed, and the metal under the plastic of the opening was hammer flat, and i still had 3 people to pull/push that box in, and it was under 13 inches tall i believe

my box was built in the car . a LOT easier than fighting with that big mofo. i'm with you mattbatt. if it was a 10 or something it would be ok to bitch about rattles a little, but 2 15s? , that's like me complaining about the trunk lid moving .

but it's gonna be hard to stop that rattle because of it moving. i was first thinking that if you could push it up you might be able to wedge something between the cover and the casing. but since you push it down to get it to stop i'm not real sure with out being there to see what i've got to work with. the dynamat MIGHT work just for the fact that it'll give it some weight to push down on it a little.

the first box i built for the 18 was 3.75 cu ft (if i remember right) and it was almost 14 inches tall and it wasn't that big of a hassle to get it in. it wasn't the easiest i've ever done, but sure not the hardest. and i put it throught the trunk lid opening

im not sure what the measurements are for the dual 15" enclosure but u do the calculations with 5cu.ft. and still able to slide through the back seat opening without a problem. the opening on a '99 grand am through the back seat without the seats in is 16 3/4". which is plenty of room for 15"subs and still be mounted in a box. all while sliding through the trunk opening. recommended enclosure for these particular subs are 2cuft per sub sealed and 2.2 cu.ft.per sub ported.which i know the box is larger then recommended, but at the time its all i have to work with(cash slump). also the setup in this car is on her website which was in her '96 corsica

not trying to be an a** but shes not complaining, its a simple, god's honest question being very polite on how to be able to stop a tiny little rattle from the sunroof.although she said its annoying but there is a difference between annoying and complaining bc she is living with it.dont take this the wrong way im not tryin to step on anybodys toes in this process

i just dont see how its physcially possible to have 30+ inches of width and 16 3/4 height and fit through there, ill go measure again, but without modifying the trunk opening, i dont see it happening..but obviously, you got it in there.

yeah my box is 25 inches wide, 17 inches tall, and 24 inches deep, and that required taking out the rear seat, and flatening the metal around the opening, so i really dont see how without flatening the metal, that 30 (looks like about 35 inches on the cardomain pic) could fit through there. any pics from the opening of the back seats?

i can take pics of the back seat opening but the back seat is back in there now. i wasnt about to even hammer on any part of the car though so,it is untouched, not my car and its to nice.not saying urs isnt but that wasnt an option for us. i slid the box in long ways first and then just rotated it in the trunk where i needed it to be.fairly simple compared to a beretta trunk!!

I mentioned a word of warning about this same post you made in the damping section. It is unwise to apply an material to the slide cover. No matter how well it is applied the sun coming thru the glass will make it soft and sticky. So one day you'll slide it back and begin stuffing the material inside the slide area. I had to take my headliner and sunroof apart to remove foam tape and matting a while back because I tried to get rid of that rattle. The best I can say is to either live with it or just remove the slide cover completely.

didn't think of that. so i'd remove it.

i've never had a sunroof. more trouble than they're worth i think. all of them i've rode in the inside of the car is constantly hot from the sun, and they've all had a problem with them leaking at one point or another. same point with T-tops. if i want a hole in my roof i want the whole roof to be gone.....i.e. convertable

It's not hard at all to remove, just remove your headliner and you'll see how to remove it. But if you don't plan on putting it back in... I'd say just take an Exacto knife and cut it down the middle and fold it out. It's alot easier than putting your headliner back in place. And many people don't care if a car doesn't have a sunroof slide cover. I removed the cover in my last 2 cars and nobody ever cared it wasn't there when I resold them. You won't miss it if you're the kind of person that never slides it closed when you close your sunroof, I like the sun in when it's rainy or not, so I prefer not having it.

ok, now that we got that clear.... how about the bumper? There is a lot of rattle with it, of course, and if I sit on the bumper itself it stops... Dynamat that and the trunk?
