Question Removing mirror joystick from window trim?

Can someone please tell me how to remove the mirror joystick from the window trim. It's impossible to remove. It won't budge. I don't know which tabs I should move. And when I do try to, it won't do anything. I need help. Explain to me how to do this.

I broke a lot of stuff, the window trim wasn't one of them, though Heh, actually no only piece I broke was the shifter trim broke off one of the pieces holding it in and on one of the HVAC rings I broke one of the clips.

I dont have to worry about that ever, mine keeps "sinking" into the window, seems to detach itself, and I pull it back up every once a week or so, and it seems to snap back up in place

Yeah mine too. About once everyfew days i check it and it's out of place and tilted. It doesn't go all the way down but maybe a inch to 1/2 inch down and to the side. Thought I was the onlyone with this....

My 02 SE do that too. Any time I touch it the stick falls into the hole. I roll the window down to adjust the mirror.

Wow, I guess we arent the only people with sticks that just randomly seem to drop, but vintalages seems to be stuck. That makes me want to bring it in for warrenty just because I know its common-issue

Did you break something, is that why you say you are screwed?? Why do you need it off in the first place?

Based on what you guys are telling me, I suppose I should be glad mine isn't popping off cause i'd hate for it to just drop in when it's time to use it.

I need it off because i'm getting my trim accented in Brushed aluminum. I'm sending it to a company (ultra graphics) to get done.

Finally got that mofo off. How did I do it? To be brief, I broke it. I was not intending to. I was prying one of the legs that hold the circular trim piece on then I heard a crack. So I said, F it and just cracked it some more until it was out. So let me tell you, this isn't easy at all. And it doesn't pop right out. I've attached pics below.

Now I need a new circular trim piece. Anyone know the part # for it?

ok here's how not to break it

(be careful during all of this as the plastic breaks easy)

Pic 1:

The circled area, youll see a flat spot - get a small flathead screwdriver in there, and pry the mirror switch enclosure towards the other side of the panel - push on the stick and it'll pop right out.

That leaves you with:

Pic 2:

use a flathead to (carefully) pry in the 3 circled tabs, and push that trim ring out the front of the panel.

Then you'll be left with pic #3 - just reverse to reinstall. You might have to bend the 3 plastic tabs on the ring back in a little bit so they catch when reinstalled.
