Question 04 Monsoon MP3 Head Unit

Okay...I've done plenty of searching and have come up empty handed. Now, before this turns into a heated debate about why I should simply get an aftermarket head unit...let me say this...I WANT TO LEAVE THE STEREO STOCK!! That being said...I am trying to find the part number for the 2004 Delco Monsoon MP3 head unit. I'm sure everybody knows which one I'm talking about..AM/FM/CD/XM Capable/Mp3

I have searched and searched...can't find the dang number. The people at my Dealership are real a$$holes...so calling them is out of the question. If somebody could get me the part number...that would be great. Thanks in advance

go and see your GM dealer (or a GM dealer) and ask them. They would know best and have all part numbers of each and every part in your car so if you don't feel like going there you can try calling first. You are wasting more time here when all you have to do is go there get the answer you are looking for.

Not to be mean or anything...but read the first post again...."The people at my Dealership are real a$$holes...so calling them is out of the question." Trust me on this one, if you knew my dealer, you would understand. I was hoping that somebody with connections could just look up the number for me. That is what we are all here for, to help each other out.

Hey,

Went thru the same thing.

I have an '03 and I've been told by the electronics company around here that does the licensed stereo/alarm installs for the GM dealers using GM parts that 'You can't put an 04 MP3 stereo into an 03'; and yes, both had the monsoon upgrade. If I recall correctly, they either said something about the connector being different or the serial line communicating different stuff...

Then again, they also told me my car wouldnt start when I unplugged the radio, so they may be smokin the bad stuff, but it might be worse since you have an '01 (i believe that was the first year they went to class 2 serial in these cars)

Sounds like a bunch of junk to me, which is why I gave up on the idea. Despite your 'want' to stay stock, if you want MP3 and dont want an FM transmitter somewhere in your car killing your sound reproduction, I'm betting you're outta luck.

As for going non-stock, I know for a FACT that my car starts with the stereo unplugged, and no SVS light comes on, and the ABS indicator seems to function properly, but theres been enough silly ghost stories that it may be safer to relocate to the trunk or get that metra harness that fills the void. While I dont believe the stories myself, I have bad mojo sometimes so I didnt want to take the chance & I did the reloc.

OOH, one other thing.

At some point, (I dont know WHAT model year), they switched the radios to a double din. The 03 and 04 definately use double din stereos, and if the '01 doesnt have a 2x din opening , than that seals the deal for sure (connector problems or not )

hope that helps you somewhat.

cheers.

Yeah that helps out....Maybe I could do a 24 hour test drive and just pull the radio out of a new car and double check to make sure that it works. As far as the codes not matching, I was hoping I could just take it in and have them fix it. I was just kinda hoping to get the newer, nicer radio into my car. I've never really taken a real good look at it, but I'm almost positive it is a double din. The only other option that I had as far as that goes...if the connectors didn't match I mean, would be to buy a set of connectors and rewire everything...hmmm..not worth the trouble. I was just hoping to get that head unit. I like the fact that the Monsoon blends well in the car, I would hate to kill that with a light show from an aftermarket head unit, thats the main reason for all of this. My other option would be to just get a CD/MP3 changer and drop it in the trunk I guess. Thanks for the help though!!! Later

The part number...

Here is the part number for the '04 Factory MP3 GA Radio. Looking at the unit in my hands now. Got it on Ebay, there is one more on there now.

GM Part No. 22711910

Will not find it in any online site though, checked myself.

Hope this helps,
Edwin

Glad to help, will know if it will work in an '03 in about a week, got it for a friend in Houston, he will be down next weekend. Next week I'm going to call a Pontiac dealer friend (owner) and get him to find out if it will be a plug and play or not, I'll let you know.

I'll post info here for all who need to know,
Edwin

Part number is posted above and is from an MP3 radio from a '04 Grand Am, so part number is known now. It is just a matter of getting a good price. GM Parts Direct I'm sure will be in the $500 range discounted. Ebay has one left and probably some as time goes on and people upgrade their '04s. Checked this site and found a couple on there, but you have to call them for a price: http://www.car-part.com/

I work at a GM dealership and the only problem with swapping hu's is the new one has to be programmed to the bcm of the car and Im not sure if the 04 hu will program to a 03 car.

Yes it will, no problem to program it. An '04 MP3 unit will work in an '03.

Yes, it should program to a 2001. No change was made to the bcm that I know of. I have a Delphi Navigation headunit from a '04 Buick Rendezvous in my '02 and it works. I had it reprogrammed to my car and everything was good.

45..not too bad i guess...i figure about 200 for the head unit...and 45 for the reprogram..then sell my old one for about 150 or so...that should work

Just wanted to be sure that the damn thing would work before I shelled out the money....thanks all
