Toyota Volta (supra mkv) concept

This second generation Hybrid Synergy Drive system uses the 3.3-liter V6 common to a variety of Toyota/Lexus products, plus two powerful electric motors to produce a phenomenal 408 horsepower (300 kW). Needless to say the lightweight sports car is quick, shooting forward from standstill to 100 km/h in a sizzling 4.03 seconds before reaching a terminal velocity of 250 km/h (155 mph).

Lightweight? The chassis is comprised of carbon fiber for extreme rigidity and reduced mass, combined with a racing-type front and rear suspension and midship layout for enhanced balance during high-speed maneuvers.
How does the sophisticated powertrain work? The rear wheels get power from the combustion engine as well as one of the electric motors, while the front wheels offer four-wheel traction via the second electric motor. The innovative layout reduces weight and the need for a space hogging driveshaft to the front axle.

The resultant flat floor and wide beam (just under 2 meters/6.6 feet) allowed Toyota to sit three adult passengers side-by-side, with a single smaller seat in the rear - it is designated a 3+1 coupe.

Of course, it wouldn't be a Toyota hybrid without being economical. If driven more moderately a single 7.5 liter (13.7 gallon) tank of gasoline should result in approximately 700 km (435 miles).

Wow, that's the poorest designed interior I've seen in YEARS. Also, the Toyota badges on the sides are completely out of place and this is a horrible successor to the Supra if that's what they really intend it to be, especially with that drivetrain.

Blech.... Looks like something from a cheesey '80s Sci-Fi movie. That interior is just horrid too.

The interior is awful. It looks like they wanted to imitate the McLaren F1, but add a fourth seat. Bad idea anyway you look at it.

The interior reminds me of the interior of the car in "The Last Starfighter."

It's not a bland interior, it looks like it's from a 70s porno.

And like I said, that powertrain will be weaksauce. More initial power than the 2jz, but that's about it.

I guess that's why they call them "concepts"...

I am sure they's never make it look like this.

It's defenetly on the "concept" side of being a concept.

What.... is that an old 1970's coutch for seats?

Looks like a 60's concept car with modern technology... or a Star Trek shuttlecraft reject prop.

How could you see anything in those mirrors?

I am sure when the real car comes out it will put everything to shame and sell like crazy. Nissan better think about twin turboing the Z.

It's still looks like a futuristic version of the DeLorean. They better go back to the drawing board before they make the mistake of makign a car that will not live up to the Supra name when older Supras are at their paramount right now. Although by even thinking of making a hybrid drivetrain it seems clear to me that they don't care about that.

Batteries ARE TOO HEAVY FOR A PERFORMANCE CAR!! When will people realize this?? Yes 408 hp is nice, but it'll be porky as hell with the extra betteries and motor(s) and you're not gonna get much more than that 408 hp because it'll be a hassle upgrading anything with a hybrid drivetrain. Power adders are pretty much out of the question because of all the room the hybrid stuff will take up in the engine bay.

Are you talking about tha batteries in the rear that are bringing balance, or the motor mounted in the rear taking up zero engine bay space, or the motor in the front that's in place of a front diff and axel? I am sure that the CF frame makes up for some weight. You're just whining because electric is the shnit and are trying to convince yourself that you would not like having motors whose peak torque starts right after 0 RPM

AHAHAHA!!

Or maybe it's because I know that if Toyota wants to make a car w/ a carbon frame they're gonna have to charge over $100k and that this thing will never have the capability of the 2jz. Or maybe, just maybe, it's because of the story I read about a kid in his Prius who ran out of battery power while on the highway and his engine was so anemic that he felt he had to speed up going into hills to maintain his ability to go over the hills and as a result he got a speeding ticket? Yeah battery cars have their place. It certainly is not in the performance arena. In reality if they did make it weigh a lot less this thing would cost way more than an NSX and would probably still weigh more and be even more of a rip off, except as a novelty item. This POS concept =! Supra.

Like I said, if they release it, it better have a lot of changes.
