2003 Cavi

My parents just picked up a 2003 Cavi sedan w/2.2 Ecotec in it. I haven't driven it yet but I will when they get back.

Anyways, mint condition. Only 20K miles on it. They got it for 8K. Kbb.com says it's value is $10,700(ish). Tires are new also (they even have those damn stubby things on them still).

I tried to talk them into a zx3, but they wanted something cheap but reliable....I think they did good (for what they will be using it for...and that won't be for much).

Oh yeah...what the hell is with GM. My brother has a 98 Cavi sedan and the interior of the 03 and 98 are EXACT. everything is exactally the same...only difference is the rear of the car (lights) and front bumper....guess thats GM's way of things....like the GA.

Auto. I took it for a spin finally....the front rotors are warped. When you slow down the steering wheel shakes and you can feel the pulsation of the pads/rotors. I told my parents to bring it back and have them fix it.

All I got to say is wow....the 2.2 is a pansey . My 1.8 in my VW moves my GTI faster than that 2.2 moves the cavi. Car is mint though....handling is waaaay different than my GAGT (which has the stiffest suspension out of all our cars....we own (in no particular order or ownership): 2000 Ponti. Boniville, 98 Malibu, 98 Cavi, 2003 Cavi, 87 Dodge Ram Van, 78 Z28 Camaro, my 2000 Ponti GAGT and my 89 VW Golf GTI).

Body roll on this thing is nuts. All in all though, I think the price was good. They ended up paying under 10K for a 2003 Cavi with 20K miles (almost 21K) and got a 4yr/75K mile warenty. I wouldn't have bought it, but the payments are low.

[edit] On another note. My parents got really weird on me lately and said they will pay to have my car fixed. The LIM gasket problem. My mom for some reason thinks its REALLY bad and my motor will blow. Right now the problem isn't that bad at all. It's just an external leak and I need to fill coolant every month and a half to two months. But you know, having the dealer fix my car for $700-800 and me not pay for it....I am not going to complain. My parents don't spoil me either, this is one of those spur of the moment "oh we feel generous" things....I wish they would do that more often.

You thought it's THAT slow? I mean the top of the line Cavy with sporty body cladding and stuff like that offers same damn engine.

Thats a great price...the 2.2 is a slug of an engine but for reliability cavaliers are great. You think the 2.2 is bad try a base model 2.0 my bicycle can probalby accelerate faster

My first car was an 86 Cav RS with the old 2.0. Those cars were unbelievably slow. They should have recalled them all for being a road hazard. Cavs are good cars though. Theyre cheap, and the engines are generally reliable and easy to fix (that goes for pretty much all of the 4 cyl engines/years..the 2.8/3.1 V6s were a different story). Ive had 3 of them and would consider another one if I needed a winter car or something.

GM detuned the ecotec for the Cavy too, down to 129hp and 129 lb ft torque. Damn them!

They wan't $18,000 for a Cavalier "Sport". Who are they kidding?!

Are they looking for the moronic customer that thinks.... *in a really enthusiastic voice*

"Hey.... I'm looking for a cheaply built cardboard leftoverf early 90's car with a supposedly "new" engine that was developed over a decade ago... and price it at 18 grand with some reasonable options. Oh... stick a "sport" badge on it and keep the drivetrain and suspension identical to the base model... GREAT... you have it? I'll take it!!

BTW I bought my 2001GAGT fairly loaded for less than 18 grand!!! THAT was a good deal! Sombody's on crack at GM right now...

I guess they do that so they can offer a 50,000 rebate and suck people in like they did me with the old GA.

GM didn;t detune no ecotec down for the cavy. It has the 140hp engine. I heard the manuals run high 15s.

Yeah I saw 140hp too. But I am told that the 2.4 is only 150hp. for 2 litre more, that's not much of a gain...or is it?

I was considering a base Cavi for a 2nd car. Not a bad deal for 10K, about 3K less than a Civic value package.

Good luck actualy finding one. I was looking... pulled some up on the internet... found them... went to the dealer, none of them were there.

10G should be the actual price not the "value package".

Maybe you need to look closer....they are not EXACTLEY the same.

An automatic 2.2 Echotec Cavalier sedan slower than a 99+ Grand Am GT coupe...

Why is it so hard to believe?

Yeah I'm still trying to figure that out. The Cavi dogs. Anyways...the car was 8K...after getting the extended warrenty and paperwork & registration it came out close to 10K.

They mentioned that the hood and front bumper was replaced. There is no other damage though (frame is fine...fenders...engine, etc). They don't know/think it was in an accident...they think more along the lines of a fatass sitting on the hood and the bumper getting messed up somehow...w/e.

If those year cars are not the same (minus what I mentioned before)...what else is different? The engine, bumpers and center console are different...that is it (maybe tranny too...I dunno).

Because with his mods it would only be roughly .5 seconds slower (somewhere around there) which really isn't that easy to feel on the "but dyno". No matter what anybody thinks...they are NOT that much slower than 3400 GA's.

I dunno....whatever....

BS....I know racing stories = no go here...but I will say this. On a "closed track" my brother in the cavi, me in my car....I wasted him. I have a heavy box in my car (2 12inch subs and amp). ONLY mods I have is paint, grills, and Eibach springs.

This wasn't a 1/4 mile or anything....it was a "holy **** it took me 2 seconds to get a car lenght ahead."

[edit] Just browsing cardomain....http://www.cardomain.com/memberpage/327092

He's got some good mods there....yet hes in high 15s.
