Didn't expect this, but WOW!
Well I've been building my ported box for my soon-to-be arriving evo-r 15. Well I got the box done and decided to slap in one of my current 15s thats I have. The box is 2.6 cuft after displacement tuned to 35 hz, and lemme tell you, after going ported, I'll never go back. This single sub getting 600 rms compared to 2 of these in a 1.8 cuft/chamber sealed box with 600 rms/sub totally kept up with the two, and even outdoing it at times. This makes me even more anxious to get the evo-r. It will be getting 1200 rms compared to the 600 rms now.
WinISD shows the vented concept to achieve 94.52 dB at 75 hz compared to the evo-r's 99.05 at 50 hz. Also I changed the evo-r's plot to 2 watts/meter since it will be recieving twice the power. At even 1 watt/meter it achieves 96.04 db at 50 hz compared to a 92.03 db at 50 hz for the concept. I can't wait! |

cool man..i will never go back to sealed either..ported is life and i will only use ported boxes..so much more, and great sq if properly done..nothing like hitting a 30 hz note when its tuned that low..i love it..

ported boxes dont always sound like poo.. anyways.. the 94 db at 75 hz is just a plot that shows how effiecient the sub is over a range of frequencys. and on that example, the box and sub combo was most effiecient at 75 hz, which in my books is kinda high. sorry, i dont really know how to explain very well.

Ya you can still build a vented box with a Q below one for that added sound quality so many like.... |

I had someone once tell me that by the time you turn 20 you cant hear anything under 40 hz anymore. Boy did I prove him wrong with my new bazooka 12 in a 2 cuft box tuned to 30 hz.
It does sound sloppy to me but I think I will fix this with a 10 in a sealed enclosure.

you shouldnt mix/match subs, if you cant fine tune the port length or the box volume

Ported boxes rule, SPL or SQ, you just have to know how to build and tune them right. I've been saying this for HOW long now?

I am very pleased on how my first ported box turned out. I just need to carpet the damn thing. My new Evo-R got shipped today. This should be a beast with 1200 RMS in the box tuned to 35 hz. I should be able to break 150 outlaw at the local comps. Start making my collection of trophys!

dunno bout 150...thats a hard score to get. That ported box must be amazingly built. Especially from a sub created by Matt Overpeck ![]()

i think its for every 3db gain you have to double the amplifier power, kinda like a general rule of thumb but not always the case

we cant put it in the port for outlaw. i have a friend who hit 149.9 with a new 15L7 and a rockford 800.2.
Plus this store's meter is a little off. I hit 149.5 with a rockford 360.2 and my 2 concepts in a sealed box. This one concept with 600 rms in the ported box sounds just as loud as the 2 concepts getting 600 rms/piece in their sealed box. plus, the evo-r will be getting twice the power as this concept and has a much stonger motor suited for ported boxes. also, the guy i bought it from, has the same amp, with a bigger box tuned lower and he hit a 147 legal in the trunk of a camry. so it is very possible to hit 150 with this. my 149.5 came from me placing the mic in front of the ac vents, so i havent really found the sweet spot yet. |

Whoever is running that mike doesn't know WTF they're doing.
No offense, but a Punch 360.2 is completely incapable of making enough power to produce that number. It's just not possible. Pesky laws of physics, you understand. Tell them to put the mic gain where it's supposed to be, not where they see he number they want. ![]()

yes, i know its messed up badly, but still i took 2nd place in the advanced 1-301 watt division. So if the 360.2 did 149.5 on that mic, and the dude with the same setup as me (jbl 1200.1 and 15 evo-r) did a 147 legal.. i could only imagine what number that thing is gonna popup next season. any guesses?!
