Mopar tunes up SRT-4 *355hp out of stage 3 kit*

Time to get back into the groove of things. Autonews section has been lacking the past few months. I'll try and turn that around with today's offering:

Quote:
Mopar madness

Mopar, Chrysler’s longtime supplier of performance parts and accessories, has developed a range of tuner add-ons for the Dodge Neon-based SRT-4, including a turbo upgrade kit designed to push output past 300 hp from the 230-hp, turbocharged 2.4-liter inline four-cylinder in the stock SRT-4. Three kits are offered for ’03 and ’04 models: Stage 1 ($399) that adds 10 hp; a middling Stage 2 upgrade ($999) that adds 30 hp to 50 hp; or the full-bore Stage 3 kit that nets 310 hp to 355 hp (depending on the options). Pricing for the Stage 3 goodies will be released this month.

That is insane. Remember when the 5.7 liter V8 Trans Am had only 320hp, this car's engine is more than half that size.

The STage 3 kit will not be covered under warrany though like the others. Also will probably be near $2k.

GM gives us a Saturn Redline detuned to 205 hp. An intercooled M-62 SC producing over 12 psi of boost, should put out more hp than that.

None of the stages are covered under warranty. I dunno if it still applies, but you originally had to give them your VIN to get Stage 1. There are some dealerships, most of them hopefully, that will still honor your warranty with minor Mopar parts, like the Blow off valve conversion, or possibly stage 1. Exhaust is probably excusable, as I think it is illegal to void for a cat-back system. In this month's Sport Compact Car, they review the exhaust they made. It was 2.5" mandrel as opposed to stock's 2.25" mandrel bent system. Stock goes all the way to the back axle, then splits and comes out of the bumper. The exhaust they installed came out in front of the rear tire and has like 1/5 of the number of bends in it and no Y pipe, either. Keep in mind that you should get a lot of power from a turbo car when you open up the exhaust, unlike an N/A car that can lose too much backpressure and lose low-end power. With all of the restriction taken out by this new system, they only managed to gain 4 whp and 4 lb.ft. of torque. They explain why, but not very well . The hood on that car was made at Howell Automotive right here in WV. They used the Howell Neon in last year's Supercar Challenge for Motor Trend or whoever does that. They took their Neon limo too . Anyways, I saw that car being trailored one day and it made me feel a little bit proud of our state. Then again, though, it is just a Neon. Sorry for the long run-on, just thought it was interesting. If stage 3 is anything like Stage2 with "Turbo Toys" was, it will be absolutely amazing. Where's GM's Stage 3 Grand Ams and Aleros? They were testing a s/c 3.4 for a while and were getting amazing results, but I haven't heard about it for a couple of years now so I guess they called that off...?

I saw an advertisement for some dealership on TV that said "Neon SRT" about a million times in it. Looks like that particular dealership thinks it's just a neon too, even though it is an SX, and even though SRT-4 is not supposed to have anything to do with a neon which is why it was named that way.

Saturn Ion Red Line

Motortrend said the ion redline put 203 hp at the wheels, and said the 2.0 supercharged engine must be 230-240hp, even though gm says it has 205hp.

Now for upgaded supercharges or what ever else may have to come partly from honda due to the fact that it is a honda engine, supercharger, and cpu.

If gm sent motortrend an accual production engine, then we are with the NEON
(i know its called the SRT but it lookes like every other neon to me).

No it is not a Honda SC, it's an Eaton Magnuson. And no, it is not with the SRT-4 now.

um... no, it's not a honda engine, supercharger or ECU.

The Saturn VUE has a Honda drivetrain.

I'm with Rob. It is an Eaton SC and the motor is from the Saab(European, not Japanese). The PCM,I am not sure.

I remember reading that one of the redlines were to use a Honda engine.

yea, we took a redline almost apart at work. definetly room for improvement. my shop foreman and i tweaked some things
it really needs a REAL fmic, not the crappy one that comes stock.

BTW, superchargers have room for improvement if you put them in the right hands. Endyn took an M-62 charger and basically reworked the internals to make it blow 27 psi into their 4 cylinder SOHC non-VTEC 1.5 L CRX engine to give almost 500 whp . I don't know the CFM it was pushing, but I doubt a modified SRT-4 snail could pump that much air.

No lag either.
