well competitors will use it more than the average customer. Competitors also have the watts needed to push the thing. Im sure ill see some of those next year like 4 of em in a van. with an enomourous amount of power kicking some ass. Im going to USAC World finals nov 23-24 in Kansas City thats like the super bowl of stereo shows. It kicks ass. Its nothing to see 15,000 watts even 20,000 watts in a vehicle there. I talked to some people there last year and they said they had over 20,000 bucks just in stereo equimpment in the car, some guy with a van said he had 40,000 and more.

Ok, here are the pictures!
These images are of the cone being changed out so that you can see how easy it is to recone one if they were to go out at a comp. or something......I'll see if anymore come out that have a better angle on the magnet!

Hey have you guys seen the new Phoenix Gold Sub. The spider cone and surround are replaceable with only 18 screws. Not only that but phoenix gold makes 3 types of cone/voicecoil assemblys that you can put in the sub and SQ an SPL or an all around so that you can have the best of all three worlds. Not only that but it looks soo sweet.
Car audio and Electronics Mag did a test report on it this month but they dont have it up on the web yet. Phoenix Gold Website I personally think it looks a little better than the Kicker woofer.

Hey
Hey
If you're talking about the Phoenix Gold Titanium Elite 12d, yes, I have seen it. It was also one of the subs I was considering next to the 12W7's and TDX's. However, I found out the MSRP and said SCREW that! I believe its like $899 MSRP or something higher than that so I HIGHLY doubt it will be cheaper than $650 for one woofer! Or maybe even 2 woofers for less than that a piece! As for the website, here it is: http://www.phoenixgold.com/tielite12d.html Also, I talked with the technician at Phoenix Gold and he stated it could take 2 of their Titanium 1200.1's (1 per coil) without breaking a sweat. It better!!. Also, it weighs only like 6 lbs less than the 12W7 (39lbs vs 45lbs if I remember right), has a DEEPER mounting depth than the 12W7, and the magnet is only .2" narrower than on the W7!!!!!!! Another new sub out of course, is the Pioneer Premier SPL, but I don't know much about that right now. Just that it's pretty big and I have seen a picture! bhepper |

I heard the badass Phoenix Gold a little while ago, I was rather unimpressed, to say the least.
And LED's on a woofer? Please - they're cheesy enough on the hood of a car, thank you....

Please explain.....
Amigrand,
I read your last post, and had a few questions for ya.... 1st........What do you mean by being 'unimpressed'? 2nd.......How was it installed? I'm talkin box, power, vehicle, the rest of the system, etc..... 3rd........What are you comparing it to? The W7? The Brahma? The TDX? I have yet to hear it, and am not trying to start a flame war, but I would like to know some more details before I automatically think anything bad about something. Not to mention that I would listen to the product as well. Give us a full review, and don't leave anything out!!!!!!! If you wouldn't mind that is... Brad P.S. Also, I don't think the LED's are THAT bad of an idea. I mean they are there to show the amount of excursion the sub has, as well as distinguish the Titanium line from the rest of their products....but to each their own! |

Like you say - to each his own. IMO, LED's add expense and complexity for no reason that matters. :shrugs:
I heard them at Boyers Audio in Provo, UT. They hd them in a cool custom box (I believe it was sealed) on the showroom floor, and I heard them in a customers car as well. They are loud, but not as loud as they should be. The bass sounded very muddy to me, reminiscent of the Fosgate Power DVC's. Build quality was not what I would expect for the price - looking over the sub, there were places where silicone/glue were dripped, the tinsel leads were uneven and cheap. The funky spider settup they have goin' on looks like more show than go, and makes an unecessary structural addition - again, added cost with little or no benifit besides cosmetics. They are a hell of a sub, don't get me wrong - I jut think that for the cash, a Treo SSX or a W7 would mop the floor with them. The ID Max and Brahma compete with the W7 better than they should for what they cost, and leave the PG further behind when money is factored in. Digital Designs will also blow them away for a good deal less money as well. [disclaimer]The opinions expressed above are those of AmIGrand, and may not reflect those expressed by other listeners who can't tell clean bass when they hear it.[/disclaimer] ![]()

Another scary oversized woofer in an industry that's full of 'em.... We'll see what happens when they actually play it!

Now when we are talking about SUPER WOOFERS why does price come into play. Of course we know the damn thing is too expensive and of course we know that buying just the amps to power the damn things would be more than most of us have. The truth of the matter is that the only people that will get these subs are rap stars NFL players and sponsored competitors who get a really nice discount. These Super woofers are like Lamborgini's, Farrari's, McLaren F1's, Tuscan TVR's etc. We dream of having one but we can't (yet!!!). So in that same respect I think they should be beautiful as well as functional. My $.02
