Thumbs up Mazdaspeed 6 **Official Pics**

Quote:
Mazda is prepping its own entry for the Subie-Mitsu rally wars—a 276-hp, 265-lb-ft Mazda 6 scheduled for a mid-2005 world debut. Spotted during hot-weather tests in the California desert, this sizzling prototype gets a twin-turbocharged and intercooled 2.3-liter four that is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox and sends power via all-wheel drive to 18-inch tires.

Why the V6? Still putting out impressive numbers with 4,

Maintenance? Lower cost of production? Maybe production line pieces they already have? Just guessing here, 'cause I don't know.

No. The only thing the Mazda V6 engine shares with the Taurus is the engine block. Everything else is Mazda design and engineering.

Thought I'd just let everyone know that Mazda plans on releasing a 2.4 twin turbo (yeah I know TT on a 4 banger sounds odd, so I'm not sure about this spec but it's what I've read) w/ 276 hp and 260ish ft-lbs of torque and AWD. Be on the lookout for the first good looking rally-style car.

In all technicality, it's still all Ford. Ford design and engineering. Ford doens't just partially own Mazda, Mazda is now a brand of Ford. I know what you are saying... but still in all technicality "Mazda engineering" is really Ford engineering now.

Still looking. This thing is pretty good looking (Legacy looks better), but AWD + tons of power does NOT = "rally style" car.

This is more on the lines of the new Subaru Legacy and some of the mid size Audi's.

Isn't this along the same lines of what I posted?

I don't believe it will be AWD and a Twin-Turbo I-4.

Negative. Mazda is still a company, still employs people, and still develops cars. Ford just happens to kick in some $$ and support. If anything, Ford is riding Mazda's back.
