Mothers Claybar, where to start?

I just bought this stuff at advance auto parts, it was the only claybar. Ok so how do i use this stuff, the directions that came with it dont give me too much info. Can the clear coat be hurt by this stuff.

The stuff i bought came in a kit with One 80oz. Claybar, one 16oz. bottle of showtime instant detailer and one 4oz. bottle of Carnauba Cleaner wax.

AGAIN, can this hurt my clear coat or will it just take off old wax and residue???

!!must be done on a cool car in the shade!! !! and don't drop the claybar!!

ok, you need to wash the car with dawn soap first, to remove the old wax and any residue.

then you get a spray bottle with 16oz of water with a capful of whatever car wash you use...not the dawn soap...this is the lubricant you will use

then work in small areas spraying the lubricant on the paint and rub the claybar over the lubricated paint. be sure to roll the claybar around every few passes to get a new surface on the clay. the paint will get smmoooothh as you claybar it. once you are done with a section, wipe it off with a 100% cotton cloth...it'll have clay on it ..don't worry about that though. continue doing this until the entire car is done.

once the entire car is smooth, you'll need to wash it again with carwash to get the remaining clay goo off.

your car is now unprotected...apply your favorite wax...since you've spent this long on it anyways, you might as well wax it twice

If it came with a lubrication spray, use it. If not, use a solution of car soap and water.

Make sure the car is washed, and then dry it.

It's critical to dry it, otherwise your claybar will get really wet and will start breaking down and becoming soft (which you don't want, cause it'll be too soft to remove any contaminents).

Just work in sections at a time. 2'x2' area works.

I do not recommend working that 2'x2' section, then wiping with a 100% cotton cloth. Think of it this way, The claybar just lifted all those contaminents to the top of the surface, and by wiping with the cloth you're going to be rubbing all those things over your clearcoat quite possibly causing swirl marks.

I think they recommend to wash the section off when you're done with it, but I ususally just do the whole car, then wash it in the end.

Once you're done with the car, wash it again... then dry it.

After the car is dry, apply your wax. I'd recommend Zymol or Zaino. If not, then choose a wax you prefer. Try staying away from Canabu (sp?) wax's!

Hope that helps.

P.S. Work in the shade, and make sure the car (especially the hood) is cool. If the surface is hot, and/or you're working in the sun, you'll have a hell of a problem using the claybar.

I don't know if it'll really make it shine better, but it will make the finish as smooth as glass. It will also make applying the wax 10x easier. Think of applying wax on glass vs 1000-2000 grit sandpaper which do you think would be easier to apply on?

it brought out the metallic flake in my paint, you could actually tell that it was green too... but maybe that's because i washed it.

claybar = teh best thing for your car besides wax

claybar gets off anything, and makes your car's paint look deep...you can even tell a difference if you claybar a new car and wax it

When using a claybar, my favorite product to use with it is Protectall wash. You simply clean the car with this solution mixed with water using a clean microfiber towel. Then after cleaning the entire painted surface with the Pro-wash, simply lubricate a small section at a time with the pro-wash then take a small piece of the claybar and gently rub it over the wet surface.(make sure to keep squishing the clay once in a while to keep it clean). I love this stuff because you can detail a car using only a squirtbottle ,as long as the car is not too muddy. If it is you should rinse it off first. Just thought Id get a word in,,,thanks

You should use a piece smaller than a golfball, but make sure to squish it up every once in a while so that you are using a clean piece of the clay. You should be able to do your whole car with this one piece, and save the rest for other times. You should also wet the clay lightly as well as wetting the paint. Do not rub to hard, just very lightly and you will have a nice smooth finish which you can either polish after,(which would leave a great shine, or you can just wax, but I recomend a good polish if you are looking for a deep shine. A good wax is Meguiars NXT generation tech wax. This stuff works great and will leave the paint with a deep gloss and protection.

Have fun
