suggestion on a 12" 2 ohm dvc sub

i need a single sub that will get me a 1ohm load and i need it to handle 750 watts rms. I know i can get 2 cheaper subs.. and get the 1ohm load that way .. but i really like my trunk space. Right now im leaning towards the p312d2 rockford sub. any comments or suggestions on this sub? and if you know of a cheaper sub that has what i need.. please let me know

That rockford does sound awesome, but you could also get the 12" 2 ohm Kicker Solbaric L5 that pumps out a little more watts for the same price.(not really cheaper but just a suggestion)

I'm not exactly sure how much that Rockford sub is, but here's a couple others:

OZ Audio matrix elite 12.2 (dual 2 ohm) 179.99 ebay price and very well worth it. Can also be found on the audio forums. In fact, there's one in the elitecaraudio for sale section right now.

Image Dynamics IDMax dual 2 ohm 279.99 price matched at sounddomain. Sounddomain is authorized, so you will get full warranty. Also, if there's no Image Dynamics dealer within 60 miles of you, Image Dynamics will sell to you directly. And they usually cut a deal.

Those are my top 2 subs over all. (although i'd die for a couple of 13w6v2's)
I've had 5 IDMaxes over the past couple of years. Every time I sell one, it's not long before I buy another. They're that good.

hey thanks for the suggestions. Im leaning towards the kicker l5 now.. ebay price is about $116 for a new one. The oz audio 12.2 is pretty rare. i cant seem to find it on ebay. I did find a few 12.4's and it seems like a good sub but i really need the 2 ohm dvc.

No No No No... dont get the Kicker 12" L5... Get the 12" L7. The L5 cant handle 750 watts. The 12 inch L7's rating is 750 watts. I have one and I love it... If and when you get it, by the second week of having it pounding, it is alot better than the first day and first week. It takes about a week and a half to 2 weeks to fully break in. When they do, they sound alot better. I suggest going with the same box design I have. It came in the Kicker Manual that came with my sub and can be found on Kickers Website in PDF format. Its thier largest box and best souding. If you build one of thier spec boxes, it will sound the best. I can take pictures of my sub enclosure for you if you want me to. The box fits in there perfect and tight.

Well here is my setup. Sorry I dont have my box rhino lined yet.. Waiting for my cousin to get his chroming shop and spray on bedliner company going. I dont have my Rockford X5 right now. I had to send it off for some work. I have this amp right now. If you look, you can see how that box design is a PERFECT fit.

im gonna disagree with ya on the L5 not handling 750 watts. i've got an L5 in my truck, i would love to have the L7, but couldn't because of space issues, and i've had 3 different amps on it. a 400 watt kenwood excelon, a 1100 watt fosgate, and now a 650 watt fosgate. the 1100 watt one was only in there for about 2 months, but that was 2 months of good, hard abuse, i promise. it's in a <1.0 cu. ft. sealed box and it's still going strong after all the abuse i've put it through.

don't get me wrong, kicker dont RECOMMEND giving it that much power, but it'll handle it .

by the way, i like the look of those new L7s. those cones make 'em look pretty mean

yeah ill be getting a L7 off of ebay... the shipping to canada costs a fortune though.. just trying to find someone who will ship it for a reasonable price. Also i think im going to get a sealed box since i do like trunk space and also i dont want to add too much extra weight if at all possible.

Well in a sealed box the L7's can handle more power than in a ported enclosure. Its just like most speakers. Ported enclosures have the best power efficiency. I had a Rockford X5 and it blew my 10" L7 within 2 months. Its only suppose to be able to handle 650 watts.

Check out the other side of the Sub... This is with the transparent film still over the chrome so it wouldnt get scratched. It looks so nice that I almost inverted my sub.. One day I might actualy do that

Negative... Single reflex bandpass boxes have the best speaker efficiency. I didn't think Kicker recommend putting the Solos in ported enclosures? Bandpass yes, ported no. Then again, things might have changed when they went to the square design.

Yes I know half the bandpass is ported, but the design is a lot different.

We arent talking about bandpass boxes though. Kicker doesnt reccommend using a bandpass box on the Solo's. They reccommend to use ported then sealed. I have a 2003 10"L7 manual and a 2004 12"L7 manual. Actualy they have an online Techinical manual in pdf. format for Adobe Acrobat.

That's what I figured.... I've got an older D series Solo (round style). It's not recommended to put one in ported box, only bandpass or sealed. Interesting how things can change when you re-design a sub.

I realize you weren't talking about bandpass boxes... I was just stating that ported isn't the most efficient (not realizing the L series can't use bandpass).
