2006 Cadillac DTS News: Official Photos

Codenamed GMX272, Cadillac is readying the DeVille for a major and very significant freshening - inside and out - for the 2006 model year. The DeVille will remain the only front-wheel-drive Cadillac until the all-new rear-wheel-drive DeVille arrives sometime in 2008.

Even under this heavy camouflage, one can see - inside and out - that the 2006 DeVille will borrow styling cues from the Cadillac Sixteen concept car.

Looks like it just getting minor interior, front & rear end tweaks. I thought I heard a few months ago that when the all-new model does come out... they'll be changing the name to the DTS. Am I wrong on this one?

This is just a refresh. The new model will be RWD and debut for 2008.

Cadillac testing DeVille replacement

Cadillac is testing prototypes of the big front-wheel-drive sedan that will replace the current DeVille in model year 2006. In keeping with the General Motors Corp. division's new naming convention, the car will be called Cadillac DTS.

While the thingypit is being updated and the sheet metal heavily revised, there will be few major changes under the skin because the current chassis and driveline are being carried over. An all-new Cadillac flagship sedan isn't expected until the end of the decade.
The 2006 DTS will maintain the same exterior dimensions and ample proportions of the current DeVille, but its nose and tail will get a significant makeover to bring the car in line stylistically with the rest of the Cadillac family.

That means the DTS will feature more angular lines and a prominent egg-crate grille to give it more of a family resemblance to the STS and CTS sedans.

I don't care what anyone thinks about it... the Deville is one of GM' best sedans. Having driven one... NOTHING I have driven is the same. Including Lexus' cutsie toosie little LS430.

If you haven't driven one you will not understand. It does NOT feel like a gigantic boat driving it, yet, it still has perfect manners, it will politley with no tire squeal kick some serious ass, in total comfort.

I like big cars anyway.

My Dad rented a Deville w/the Northstar motor in it about 4 years ago and drove it from California to Colorado and back. He came back so impressed with this car and especially the motor... he said it was like nothing he'd ever driven in his 57 years, at that time.

MY dad owns a Deville. It's parked right in front of me now. (My dad's my boss). I've driven it a few times. It's like driving a cloud. Smooth with tons of power. Handling isn't too bad but not the best. I don't like the weighty feel. But nothing like a lumbar massage with heated butt while driving. He's got everything but the infra-red deer viewing thing.
