Smokey & the Bandit vs. Nightrider

some of you might know I'm the the market for a new car;
So I'd gladly get a 60's-70's Mucsel car (one of the directions I could go)

Today while browsing through Trans-Ams I got into an agrument with my freind, and I feel this would be an intresting discussion:

The Smokey and the Bandit era Trans Am (My pick)

or

The Nightrider era Trans-Am (Freind's pick)

Talley
Bandit: 10
Nightrider: 2

Airwolf: 2
Blue Thunder: 0

discusss:

How on earth do you proposition me about a 240sx on a tread about Trans-Ams, 6.6l ones at that.

How much does he want for it, I know someone who might want it; as for me the only import I'd get from that side of the world would be a WRX STI.

Get the smokey and the bandit T/A. I had a 78 with the T/A 6.6 and a 4-speed. That's the one that you want. Hopefully it has the T/A 6.6 and not the 6.6 Liter. The T/A was the Pontiac 400 and the Liter was the Olds 403.

Good to know, I've been looking at a bunch of different cars, my dream car is a Fast Back Mustang, wanted one from the cradle. 2005 Mustang recaptures that look and is cheap; so I might get one in a few years when we know how reliable they are. I'll probably just get the first car I like and fits the budget.

Edit: My second pic would definatly be a General Lee, EDIT: I love those chargers. If I lived in the south I'd be rocking the stars and bars on the roof so quick. It's funny how as soon as you enter PA all the rest stops and stores sell the stars and bars decals and stickers. Sadly in NYC would take it the wrong way, and I'd get my car torched.

How sweet is this though:

http://non-standard.dhs.org:83/event...02877.JPG?orig

after seeing that car @ the car show in S.I. I had 1/2 a mind to get the bird on my hood when I would have gotten my paintjob in the fall.

I was thinking GTO for some reason when I was writing that, I'm having an off day (you shoulda seen me trying to do the math playing black jack between classes today).

But yeah also gotta love the chase seen in Bullit between the Fastback Stang and the Charger

I hate what they're doing w/ the new one, it's just the sedan version of the Magnum.

Y'all are speckled pups.

Both are complete dogs. Trans Am's and Firebirds made a few years BEFORE the "Bandit" Trans Am were the musclecars.

But... between the 2...

Bandit.

it was simply an argument between those two, I myself like the early 70's ones, the 455 is a beast.

I gotcha. BTW the "Speckled pup" comment was not an insult. Hope you didn't take it that way.

Me too, I agree.

I had an Oldsmoile with a 455 V8 in it. (slightly differnt than the Pointac/Buick 455) As big as the vehicle was I could still smoke the rear tires for half a block by doing nothing more than letting off the brake and then flooring it. I could even spin em' from a 5MPH roll!!!

I miss that kinda torque.

Ok, if you could get the Knight Rider car with the turbo boost, oil slicker, & the cool british voice....I'd go with that one.

If you're gonna get a 2nd gen go with the earlier ones 70-73, much more badass than the 77-78, 79-81 were about the only year firebirds that I never liked. Only thing is a good 70-73 firebird/formula is gonna be expensive and a TA even more especially if you find a numbers matching SD455.

If you wanna get a 3rd gen stay away from anything 82-86, total dogs. I'd look more at '87-'90 GTA, TA, TTA, or Formula and look for WS6 or at least the factory 16" wheels if you can. Stay away from TBI and carbureted ones. They're easier to find in really good shape for a better price and moderately optioned ones are starting to hold thier value and collectibles are actually coming up already. (ie: my '89 GTA WS6 5-spd, only 366 made with manual trannies that year).

Either way I like them both, but Detroit didn't really make anything with power from 74-86. Both 2nd and 3rd gens had the same basic chassis and suspension design, although resolved in the 3rd gens for much better handling. 2nd gens were true pontiacs with pontiac engines (except towards the end they started using SB chevys and some oldsmobile engines). 3rd gens were all corporate SBC's in the V8 cars.

If it's gonna be a daily driver I'd go with the 3rd gen, if you already have a daily driver and want a fun car then go with the 2nd gen (or first gen even).
