If your a frequent speeder, you'll get tickets, detector or not. It can't save your from instant on Laser, which is the new fad anyways. They are useful, but if your a major speeder, you'll find they won't always help. (This is coming for somebody who used to swear by one, and used it constantly.) Not to metion, if they do stop you, and see a detection, your getting a ticket, end of story.

Yeah, if you are catching yourself speed and don't want to.....a radar detector won't help with that! That reminds me of the Lincoln COntinental that I had...black with the Signature Series package...nice car...
It actually had a speed alarm that you could set....default was 10 above the limit.....! That car had SO many cool features....it had the electric eyes that would turn your brights on and then off when a car was coming at you. It also told you how many miles you could go on how much gas you had left, your avg. mpg at what your throttle position was...etc....lots of stuff.

I don't know but I still wouldnt trust a radar detector......thats just me.

I went to best buy and spent about $140 on a Whistler detector. Works fine with me.

haha cobras are terrible they couldnt detect a cop if he was sitting right in front of you waving his radar gun.
the passport 8500 and 8500 x50 or even the valentine are the best ones on the market. the passports go for about 250 on ebay last time i checked. the valentine is retailed at $400 but you can find it around $300 sometimes if you're lucky.

i got one from radio shack cause it was the only place open with good detectors when i went to buy, i believe its actually awhistler because it has the exact same casing as a whistler radar detector, i spent $189 and in the 3 years i've had it i'veonly gotten one ticket, cops are using instant on more and more, which makes a radar detector usless

i'll tell you what i just got the beltronics RX65 pro, "best overall performance" over the passport 8500, and the valentine. The bel is awesome, very sensitive, it has three city modes, highway and autoscan. I like it a lot. it has the pop protection to which if you drive a highway a lot is essiential. ebay you can get it for 234.00 shipped. it's definitely worth it. my dads going up north sunday and im gonna see what he thinks about it, cause there's a lot of cops on I75 and when u go 85, you need it. Bel RX65 Pro = best overall performance. PLUS it talks to u so you dont even need to look over. another thing that most radar detectors dont have.

k40 is very expensive but i would agree its the best. i was trying to keep the prices reasonable.

hodge ... where is it stated that the bel has "best overall performance?" or is that just your opinion?

i didn't care for the valentine. i have a friend that has one.....only feature it has i like over my passport is the directional arrows. but other than that the passport pics up better than the valentine in the unofficial tests i've put them in.......which consists of putting both on the same windshield and driving around.

the x50 also has a POP feature on it. it also can be reprogrammed to recieve new threats when the time comes.

the Bel RX65 has "new" features that the passport has had for a few years now. and the only thing i see that the Bel has that the passport don't is the "Ku" band for use in europe. but i dont travel to europe very often, and when i do i dont worry about carrying my radar detector....so that feature isn't an issue.

not knocking the detector....it's undoubtedly a great detector, but everyone has their preferences....and mine's the 8500 x50

I like my sr-7 it seems to work very well. But if your looking for a more afforable one I would agree with a 8500 or 8500 x50.

isn't going 75 or 80mph on the highway limit enough for you guys down there. I was in Minnesota, and that speed limit is about 20 mph higher than the limit in my province alone

I don't think you need to spend $400 on a Valentine. I payed $120 for this Whistler at Best Buy and it really works great. It goes off a lot, but I can usually ignore it with my music on and it gives me enough time to slow down.
