4 subs vs 3 subs

I am trying to get the audio together i need some help! I was thinking of running
3 12" Kicker Comps (dont know what kind of amp yet)

I called crutchfield today for wiring help they told me that is now worth my time to have to have 3 subs cause i wont be using all the power from my amp. They suggessted:
4 12" Kicker Comps
1 600 watt MTX or KENWOOD amp

What does everyone think??? Will 4 12's even fit in the trunk??

Yes barely, A guy up in my home town has 4 12" comps in the back of his 02 GT Sedan. Another has 4 MTX 6000 12" in the trunk of his 99 SE Sedan. Both have 2 sealed boxes for the 4 subs. They fit, but don't use the trunk for anything else

They will fit, but if you are even thinking about that setup you better invest some money in dynamat, or the bass might knock your wing, and or trunk out of alignment.

why not just use 2 of a better sub? you dont get much going from 3-4 subs, or not as much as youd think going from 2-4. say you hit 130db with 2, you'd hit 133 with 4, actually probably less, considering you wont be making the ideal box for 4 subs, when you'd have plenty of room for the ideal box for 2 subs

if your looking at crutchfield, look at the infitinity perfect, takes a small sealed box. or the mtx5500, which id go with the ported box for. only problem is those generic box's have tiny ports and subs never sound good in them, if you want the most from your sub call the manufacture or email them with your setup and they'll design you the perfect box for that sub with that amount of power...you can loose ALOT of db and sq going from 1 box to another

edit, for sq, defintaly go with the inifinity perfect in a small sealed box, you'll get tight acurate bass, and they're extremely efficient. according to the specs, they're 96db, which means they'll be 4x louder than mtx 5500's with the same amount of power, get a 500-600 watt amp for the two of them. granted the specs may be fudged some, aluminium speakers are always up there on effieciency

and they have a deal going now, you get $100 off a pair of infinity perfects if you buy a infinity reference amp so the subs are $130 instead of $180, and infinity has a 610a for $350 (456 watts, but its cea certified, so it actually puts out that power, were if its not cea certified, they fudge the numbers alot)

thats the setup id get

dude, if u really want a lot of bass, get a JL Audio 12 inch W7. Sickest sub you've ever heard it would be worth just buying 1 of those then buying four of the kicker crap.

Kicker ain't bad.
JL is better though.
Someone wanna give me ideas for a system setup for the trunk? I am audio-challenged.

kicker comp's are crap, ive hooked them up, junk i even owned a set of 12" kicker comps like 2 years ago, crap.

those mtx sledgehammer boxes are pretty good, i personally like the 5500 or up, the 9500 sledge box was awesome, not the loudest id ever heard, but very musical...were still VERY loud

ive used kicker amps too....clean amps, but they draw alot for what they are, or they did 2 years ago.

i've had a great experience with my comp vr.......it's got over 1200 watts rms going to it, it's in a ported box, it gave me a 149 a couple weeks ago.

anyways, the 4 12s will give you bragging rights, 2 12s will give you better numbers more than likely. if it were me and i was wanting something to show off, i'd go with 4 12s. if i wanted to outbump almost everything i pulled up beside.......i'd get 1 mean 12 with one hellacious amp pushing it . get you a kicker solo x 12". a little costly, but it'll handle 2500 watts rms. show me a JL sub that will do that......even the famous 13w7 only has about a 1500 watt rms rating. not knocking JL as far as quality goes though, they do sound pretty dang clean.

listen to a JL 12" W7, you'll never want another sub again, if you still have hearing left.

was that 149 at the port?

you want bragging rights??

http://www.atomicspeakers.com/produc...X/apx18d2.html

how's 16,000 watt handling?

my brother used 2 15" apocolypse X's running off 4 american bass 1800class d's and it took it all day, and thats the dvc version, id imagine the qvc could take a little more

for a musical spl sub......use atomics quantum 12 or 15

atomic subs blow away any of the mainstream stuff, they're the original loudspeaker maker, only problem is they dont make there stuff for show. but whats the point in a fancy basket when it goes in a box? none. that and they dont advertise, but they do make alot of other companies speakers. trust me, they hit.

They are all effing loud and over 110 dB your ear will be screaming in pain and quality Sub is more a reference to the glue's holding power than the actual accustics at that kind of level. I always am telling myself to turn it down cuase I want to be able to hear my kids first words! That's my incentive!

no, 149 was at the windshield. it's down a few decibles from when we had the competition here. it was 154 i THINK. hell, that's been about 5 months ago, i've slept alot since then and have more major things on my mind. im not sure what the port dB would be, never tested it for $hits and giggles.

uniquesoul, on the original topic here... You can use 3 subs if you want to. Just make sure the amp you get is 1ohm stable, and you can wire the subs in parallel and get close to a 1ohm load. That way you will push the amp as much as it can go.
YOu have alot of options. Go to a local stereo shop if there's one around, they can give you better advice than some dip on the phone.

i heard a JL 13W7 with 2 JL1/1000 amps hooked to it, in a cavy. It was in a box designed for that sub, and it was incredible. And I thought my 2 12W3's were loud.
