or you can buy bass blockers from the store that tie into the wiring of the speaker

Easiest way to go. You can get them at Best Buy or Circuit City for about $10 a pair. Will block any frequencies under a certain amount from going to the speaker.

here is the proper way to do it http://www.partsexpress.com/resources/xover.html
obviously you just want to cut bass and not deal with the highs at all.

I bought a Pioneer deck with a built in high pass filter for the front/rear speakers, and a dedicated sub output to the amp, works very, very well.

In any case the bass blockers work well with any deck including the factory one.

Disconnecting the rear factory amp is a stupid way to do that, better to amplify the highs for better volume.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the power for the rear speakers in fullrange comes from the deck, and the specific sub-bass set gets amplified by the 50watt unit in the trunk, correct? So, by not powering the extra amp which only amplifies the lowend, crossed over for the seperate voice coils for the lowend, all you'll get is fullrange in the back, right? I've pulled the fuse, looking for a weird gremlin in my system, and I still get full range, without the sub-bass of the amp and seperate voice coils.

Ahh ha, that explains everything. Nevermind the fuse pulling idea, I had my sound systems confused. New Screenname Elliot? Still got the best avatar!

I have blown my rear 6X9's twice with the bass turned way down, so I bought those foam baffles that go under the speaker and have had no problems since. They were cheap, under $20, plus I didn't have to cut any wires. With the bass turned down at the head unit you should still be able to get enough bass boost at the amp. If not then crossovers or bass blockers will be needed.

why not just disconnect the 6x9 woofer? You will still run your tweeters. If you put bass blockers on it, nothing is going to come out of it anyway since the crossover on the monsoon amp only allows low frequencies to the woofer anyway. Just disconnect it.

This is a link to cruchfield, they are $8.99 a pair. They help keep the pressure from the trunk from pushing excessivly on the 6X9's.

they also severly limit the excursion of the woofer since it goes from being in a 10 cu/ft box(the trunk) to a verry small enclosure. which by it'self would limit the bass being heard but would still put strain on the voice coil.

They work good for me because I keep the bass level low on the headunit, so the voice coils shouldn't be strained much.
