Recomended sub for tight deep bass?

I'm thinking of just doing some JLs in a sealed box, but i thought i'd gather some more opinions first.

Ya know when you go to a concert and the bass is just the deepest and most wonderful thing ever? Well I want that in my car. Right now i have a ported box w/ a jlw3v2, but while it's loud, its also very... bassy. Its always producing a tone, and i'd like to just get that really deep thundering bass and have my mids cover the higher frequency bass.

so... what do you recommend? Anything in particular, or just a sealed box?

im a fan of MTX subs. im hooking up a single 5500 12" driver in a ported box on 400watts. ive heard them a few times in cars. inmo they offer more for your money over JL. in every review ive read they say they can take 2x as much power as mtx says they can, guess they dont want to be like audiobahn and say there stuff can take 1000 watts when it can only take 600, so they recommend 300....

IF you cross over your sub frequency lower, you will have more power and less signal for the subs to produce, so they can be more dedicated to the very low frequencies. Too high of a crossover setting might be lending your lower-mids to be over-emphasized as well. Have you played with your cross-over point to try and get an optimal sound? Just a thought. Eclipse subs are good stuff.

I have an MTX 12' 8500 and about to add another one here in a couple months... I have an old rockford punch 100 to it, thats right, 100 watts in a ported box and it sounds hella good. The least amount of wattage I have ever ran and it suprises me.
Went to CarToys a few months back and listened to 2 12" MTX 9500's in a sledghammer box with 200 watts rms going to each and it was soooo loud, crisp and the quality was amazing... -2003 MTX < 2004 MTX

if you want punch clean bass get some 10's. If you want real deep bass but sloppy get a 15".

If you get a high quality 15" sub it wont be nearly as sloppy as some cheaper subs. I had an Oz Audio Matrix 15" and it was the best 15" ive heard in a long while. Take a look into Oz Audio.

i think mtx came back big time too, just get the 5500 or better...

I have the same setup with 3 jl10w3v2s in sealed boxes and it sounds amazing. If you want it to play lower, just set it up for lower sounds on your amp or your head unit.

Not to be compared to an Oz Audio sub as those L7's are junk. (I used to sale and install them, I know)

Oz Audio Matrix Elite

Image Dynamics IDMax

Those are the only 2 subs i'd spend my money on, for now. (personal opinion, of course)

There are a great many others that may work well for you, as everyone has their own tastes, but these are the only 2 I found that suit my needs and tastes.
