Hey i saw this pretty cool mod, so i bought a LCD screen and an In-Dash dvd/mp3/cd player and the radio trim off ebay for about $200. I was just wondering if anybody knows how to:
1. create a switch pannel like the one in the pic below? 2. how to wire the lcd and the dvd player? 3. relocate the HAVC to the opening between open portion of the center console infront ofthe shifter? 4. and would i need a fm moudulator to get sound from my speakers? 5. what tools would i need to trim the radio bezel and paint it? 6. finally how does the LCD stay put, are they any brackets holding it? Here is the pics (the first 3 is what i want to copy)(the other 3 is what i bought): Last edited by awaadster3; 11-02-2005 at 05:42 PM. |

Oh.. I need help in this too...
I went to radioshack today and bought 2 rocker switches to create a custom switch panel in the cubby under the dimmer switch. The pics of the switch is below so it the link. I am not sure if this switch will work. Also does anyone know how to wire the panel like RamAirGT22 did. I have some of his pics below.

Haha...I forgot I had pics of that panel. I don't even use mine anymore and prolly won't ever again. It was for my neons and stuff, but I took them all off. My body kit will be done this week and I am not sure if I am gonna put more neons on again. Make me and offer for the panel and its yours, plus I would need your stock cubby hole.
Also what questions do you have about wiring it??? |

As far as the price I paid about $15 for the switches, $5, for the LED's, and fiberglass and other supplies were like $10. So I wold like to get at least $15 plus shipping, so like $20.00 total. Plus you cubby. PM me if you interested. |

ill build you a panel like that for $20 painted w/ switches installed and wired. $20 being for the supplies to make it.
edit: this isnt an easy beginner project IMO. i just fiberglassed and worked out a few crevices on the window switches, radio bezel (kind of like iceman's with a few differences), and fog switch. pain in the ass to get everything perfect. relocating that hvac control and making the trim around it look that good will probably be the hardest part. EBlend did an incredible fabricating job. as for tools to do these projects: 1) fiberglass cloth (bondo kit) 2) resin (bondo kit) 3) resin hardener (also in a bondo kit) 4) various grits (i use 80, 180, 400, and 1,000)of sand paper in LARGE quantities (i prefer emery cloth) 5) not necessary, but a power sander will help. 6) wire strippers and crimpers 7) sodering iron 8) sandable primer 9) paint of your choice 10) and if you desire, clear coat.

any wiring stuff 'should' come with the lcd screen you have. as for fiberglass or bondo, there are hundreds of tutorials online.

found a really great site:
http://web.njit.edu/~cas1383/proj/main/ seems to be easy enough but VEY time consuming. Just 1 question. If someone wanted to make what Eblend made, would they have to use both fiberglass AND bondo? or can you somehow get away with just using bondo?

Bondo does not have enuf strength on its own. In fact I am surprised that everyone is using fiberglass. It does not stick to plastics all that well. I used duramix 4040, its a body shop plastic 'adhesive'. I have had tons of success with that route owever its more expensive.
If you use fiberglass its too time consuming to sand it and you will itch when you are done. hats why you need to use bondo, its sands far easier and if you use the regular stuff you don;t have to worry about itching. I would make someone a panel if they wanted. I don;t have supplies at school, but could have my parents send me the stuff. If anyone is interested PM and I will get you a timeline and a price. I went a different route and moved my HVAC controls to the center console, lost a cupholder but so what. I am actually going to remold a new screen in in a few weeks and get the thing painted finally. It was winter when I finished it last and so I was unable to spay it then. J~ |

U don't need to be a jerk dood. If you realize wut I said. Fiberglass does not stick well to plastic. If you have anything thats plastic that flexes at all the bondo will crack at the joint as well. Look at anyone in industry who molds screens into plastic they are using duramix.
I guess if u have some form of super duper bondo that they don't sell anywhere else on earth u might get lucky. Just watch out for wut you say, there are ppl with more experience than you have. |
