2007 Saturn Sky News: Photos of Sky displayed at Saturn dealership

Saturn today released the first visual rendering of its upcoming sports roadster and announced that the two-seater will carry the name Sky.

The rear-wheel drive Sky will showcase new design cues that will appear across Saturn’s future products as the brand renews and extends its portfolio over the next 24 months. The Sky is scheduled for public debut in Detroit at the North American International Auto Show in January. It will arrive at Saturn retailers in early 2006.

The Sky will be built at GM’s Wilmington, Del., assembly plant. It borrows its name from a Saturn concept that was shown in 2002, but there is no design link between the two vehicles.

Yeah, its probably based off of the Solstice...but thats cool, I've heard nothing but good things about the Solstice from actual knowledgable people.

If they make it look like that blurry, tease of a pic....... that will be badass.

I have never seen the solstice in person and have never driven it so I cannot make a knowledgable call as to wether I like it or not. Judging from the pics of it, it would be on my list of consideration if I were in the market for a 2 seater roadster.

If it comes out blurry.... actually that would be pretty cool.

The teaser pic makes it look better than the Solstice already.

This looks like a more modern version of the Solstice. The grille, headlights and fogs are all cutting edge - however I must say that I'm drawn to the Solstice's retro look.

The problem with the Solstice is it has too much weight and too little power. Now if the SOlstice is big to accomodate bigger people, this will probably play out fine. If it is chunky and still tiny like a Miata or S2K, it will probably have trouble succeeding. Of course, if it is under $20k like originally planned, there should be a nice market for it either way. If they make a 220-240hp supercharged version for $24k, watch out.

It's 2800 lbs and 170hp.

Since when is that too heavy and too weak?

Well, the Miata is 2500 lbs and has the Mazdaspeed turbo version with 178 hp, but even with the 142 hp n/a L4 it'll be quick and it can probably outhandle the Solstice. The S2k is 2800 lbs and has 240 hp (you might argue torqueless, but at this weight torque isn't as much of a factor, and even so it has 162 ft-lbs, which is pretty decent, and the 240 hp has been dynoed at almost 240 at the wheels for the new 2.2L version).

In any case, the 2860 seems light to me too, but when some journalists reviewed some prototypes in England, they said the cars felt porky. Hopefully the problems will get worked out, as if it is just 2860 lbs, has 170 hp/170 ft-lbs, has those looks and is only $19,999 base, it'll sell like crazy. I'd tell my dad to buy one. He loves the S2k but doesn't want to spend that much on one. Although he'd still probably prefer a certified used S2k over a Solstice.

Drive an ecotec powered vehicle and then see what you think. I can lay rubber with my base Cavalier automatic sedan.

I would imagine 170 is a low estimate of HP just like how the J body's with the Ecotec (advertized 140 crank HP) dyno 135-140 HP to the wheels stock.

Yeah, but thats the turboed Mazdaspeed Miata..... I would venture to say base vs. base.... the Solstice would probably take the Miata. Plus, can anyone say Solstice GXP?..... That would be kick ass. I don't actually know if they're planning on one, but something making about 220hp or so would be nice in that light of a car.

Why must they only catch up.......if GM is going to do a GXP push it to 300 horse!

I Would Like to Introduce You To the 2006 Saturn Sky

AutomobileMag.com

"Saturn's version of the Pontiac Solstice, the Sky exhibits the new face of Saturn, which will add a mid-size sedan and a large crossover sport-utility to its lineup over the next two years. Aimed at the Mazda Miata in price with dimensions close to the pricier and slightly bigger Honda S2000, the sub-$25,000 Sky gets a 170-hp, 2.4-liter Ecotec four mated to manual or automatic five-speed transmissions and near 50/50 weight distribution. The Sky comes in early 2006, and we expect a Red Line version to follow. We're wondering what sister division Pontiac thinks of the supposed budget-brand Saturn becoming more performance-oriented"

ENJOY!

Best car from GM this decade aside from the C6.

oh and i got this from GMI.
