Buick Lucerne News: Official Photos

Quote:
Are these pictures worth enough to some General Motors engineers to have the local police department intervene? You bet they are! Twenty-four hours after these photographs were taken, our brave and dedicated photographer was pulled over by the local cops, at which time the officer turned around and gave a "thumbs up" to the worried engineers across the street. Apparently they had concerns that we were stalking them!

But truth be told, it was obvious that we were after this first glimpse of the new Buick Lucerne. Codenamed GMX222, the LeSabre replacement will restyled and re-engineered, and likely to reach dealerships in late 2005 as a 2006 model. The front-wheel-drive sedan will move up a notch with Buick amenities to fill the gap to be left by the Park Avenue. LeSabre sales may even continue for a short a while after the Lucerne is launched, adding an even more upscale lure to the eventual replacement.

The Lucerne will be offered with a V-6, or with an optional and quicker 5.3-liter V-8 re-engineered by GM for front-drive use. A six-speed automatic is also expected to be available.

One thing the camouflage may conceal is traditional portholes in the front fenders - three for the V-6 and four for the V-8.

the first 2 are from TCC and the third is from Cheersandgears.com

Riiight... anybody else see that happening?

And isn't Lucerne a brand of milk?

The NAME... what idiot came up with "Lucerne." What's next... the Chevrolet "Parkay" or the Ponitac "Kraft"?

Is Toyota or some other car company paying money under the table to the marketing people at GM?

The interior... meh. Not bad, but not striking either. That door panel is plain.

Allright. well considering who Buick sells to i have to get into the mindset of my grandmother to review this car. The door handle is hard to find. The shifter is hard to use. The gauges are hard to read. its got too much power. it rides rough (cause you know they try some sport/luxury suspension gimmick).

Buick is catering to a different demograph these days, as evidenced by the Rendezvous, Terraza, and the Lacrosse.

Gee..... another shocker. Granted, Lucerne does seem like kind of a silly name, given the dairy product reference........ But seeing how you can't really see the car that much, if this thread had been titled "Lexus Lucerne".... or "Honda Lucerne".......... the repsonses would have been more like, "Well, the name is kind of odd, but man that looks like it'll be nice", and "Wow, that interior looks pretty smooth and well-built."

No the hell I wouldn't. I'd give the same remark. However, I doubt Lexus would let a door panel be that plain. It's flat looking and cheap. That interior doesn't even closely resemble a Lex.

, if Lexus built this...i would say the interior looks cheap, almost GM-like...

Some of you are idiots. Lucerne is probably the most clean and beautiful city in Switzerland, which is the most beautiful country in mainland Europe. I'd venture to say they have the friendliest people there and is cleanest/most beautiful city in Europe. I LOVED going there, wish I could move there. There's a lot of history too. Unfortunately the typical American, like most of you, is too ignorant to know this. I suppose they're aiming for more sophisticated groups anyway. I like that interior A LOT.

Remember, Buick isn't supposed to be pure Luxury, Cadillac takes up that segment, and even so, that interior is impressive. Simple is not always bad, remember that people always percieved VW to be a high quality (relatively) brand because of the interior simplicity, which is where I see them going on this one. Buick is supposed to be an affordable refined car, which I think this clearly is, with a host of engine options and a 6 speed automatic availible.
