Cobalt SS Supercharged Performance Numbers!

Motor Trend did a 'First Test' article in the latest magazine(Feb. 2005) and published their performance figures for the Chevy Cobalt SS SC. Check them out.

0-60: 6.0 sec.
1/4 mile time : 14.5 @ 98.2 mph
200 ft. skidpad: 0.89g
600 ft. slalom : 69 mph

This car had the Performance Package with a Quaife LSD. They give praise to the feel of the electric-assist steering("it feels like a normal hydro-mechanical unit", "a precision slicing and dicing tool for placing the car on the road"). Here is another quote about the Cobalt SS, "If this a glimpse of a new GM that'll no longer settle for "just good enough", we are genuinely heartened".

Not too shabby. What is the MSRP on the SC one?

It would be nice to see them run 14.2 or quicker straight from the factory.

I was just reading the recent Motor Trend and in their test, their test vehicle had a sticker of $24,995!!!.

$21,995 is the BASE for the car.

I'm still not impressed.

BTW, Isn't this car suppose to be competing with the other sport compacts that are putting out serious performance numbers?

An $80 investment in a smaller SC pulley can take care of that.

what do you consider "serious performance numbers"?

That's a good question. I think the numbers are pretty impressive. It beats the heck of the Saturn Ion Redline.

Evo, STi, hell even a SRT will spank that Cobalt around from what it sounds. I've been under the impression that this car was suppose to compete with those cars.

Yeah, a smaller pulley will help alot, but will not help regarding my previous statement.

...its no GTO there highspeed... The price is pretty high but if you buy a brand new american car you can expect that. Its still cheaper than when i bought my car new. I expect the Cobalt to be a good impact on the average tuner. No tellen how its really going to turn out tho for a while yet.

I still think its a better route than to supercharge and waste 10 grand on our cars.

Yeah I just noticed, I thought they were alittle closer to 25k. I'm right about the the SRT though(I hate to say it), its actually cheaper, faster, and lighter(~100lbs). (Not that I'd be caught dead in one myself.)

So true. Could be a big success, could be another chevrolet mistake.

In Canada, MRSP:

Available Options:
SMOKERS PKG - inc: ashtray, cigarette lighter = $35Cdn [$30 US]
PWR SLIDING GLASS SUNROOF = $1,100Cdn [$934 US]
SIDE-IMPACT CURTAIN AIRBAGS = $395Cdn [$335 US]
ONSTAR IN-VEHICLE COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM = $1,230Cdn [$1,044 US]

Fully loaded = $27,755Cdn [$23,561 US] + freight ($930Cdn / $790 US) & taxes.

Might want to double check on that.. last I heard, a smaller pulley makes hotter air not more boost on that setup

If the SC version that is almost $25K has the Quaife LSD, its almost worth it. I mean, you get the S/C setup....which is like $2500 - 3K, the LSD which is probably around $700-800 (when I had my Golf GTI this is how much they charged for one of theirs).

Then of course if the warenty supports the above, they need to train their damn techs on how to work on them...which they probably figure into the cost...and then the name...it being the best highest version, GM will charge you for bragging rights....look at the Cavileres....all of them (newer ones) are the same, same engine and all...just some styling differences and the higher up cars cost way more...beh.
