rear speaker install

Does anyone know how you would go about replacing the factory three way speakers with two way? If you can possibly run them off the factory amp...if not...where do you tap into a sound source for a new amp...and is this source RCA or is it speaker level from the deck to the amp in the trunk? And does that amp power all the speakers in the car? I have a 99 model...if that helps any. I tried the search earlier....couldn't seem to find my answers.

Thanks

ps...i'm also thinkin about installing a sub or two in the future but waiting for more funds...just wondering if that should change my plans on the installation of amp for the 6 X 9's.

Thanks again

Do you have the "upgraded" sound system??? If so I think there is an amp in the car, look behind the carpeting on the drivers side trunk panels.

Let us know and we can help from there..

why not just take out that amp and stick a higher quality amp in there? that way all the wiring is done for you

i dont know...it might. i don't have the upgraded sound package in mine. that doesn't matter though. Pick up a 2 or 4 channel amp and run all 4 speakers.

oh i think i might see what your getting at. you dont want to send too much power to the stock speakers up front. in that case... i would get a seperate amp. Just get a distro. block to split the power wire. Depending on what 6x9's your getting...I'd get the JBL 80.2 or the JBL 150.2. honestly for the ease of everything, id say just upgrade your front speakers too. you could get a nice set of 4x6's for like $70 that way you can just buy one amp and replace it to run all 4 speakers. But its all up to you.

well, although your front speakers are the ones u really want power to, if you're just gonna replace the back speakers, u can't use the stock amp to run them, they run in like 8 ohms or someting like that, so it won't match up.

What you should do is find yourself a nice little 2 channel amp and connect the full pass filter from the amp (since there's a low pass and a full pass for the DVC 6x9's) to your amp, and then connect it to the new speakers.

MY RECOMENDATION:

Get rid of all four of your speakers, get really nice components in the front, get some so so speakers in the back, get yourself a decent sub, and run them all off of a 5 channel amp it'll sound great!

5 channel amp . Id say get a seperate sub and speaker amp. Its just to hard to find a single amp that will match your sub and speakers perfectly power/impedance wise.

Yeah the stock 6x9s are dual voice coil so hooking up some aftermarket 6x9s to the amp won't sound to good.

1) stock speakers suck
2) replace stock speakers b/c they suck
3) hook up a 6channel amp to the 4 stock speakers and leave the other 2 channels to the subs, all 4 speakers amped and the subs powered by 250 watts, problem solved and sounds great

thanks

Unless you're lookin for some huge competition vehicle or you're an amazing audiophile,i think the 5 channel will work fine...

mine runs 80x4 to my components and my 6x9's...
and then i have my 5th channel running around 250 watts to my sub.

Sounds good to me

personally, that is still an awful low wattage to be pushing any sub. maybe its just me but i wouldnt use any sup under 300watts RMS. i guess you could put a single, good quality, 10 in a ported box with 250 watts... maybe it would sound ok. im a bigger is better kind of guy. prooving to everyone that im an idiot wont change me. even when i know im wrong, i wont admit it

i'm running my solo barics on 225w at 4ohms, i hit 146.2db's it may be low wattage but great output, a watt is a watt no matter how you look at it, but most subs say they are at 500watts but that is there thermal capacity, i.e when they catch on fire

most subs i've seen run on about 200-300 watts and sound plenty loud and can pound for hours

hmm i doubt you can say most subs rms rating is off by that much. it all depends on the sub. my subs are 400w rms..so yeah it would sound fine with 2-300 watts...but some subs such as a brahma are 1600w rms...i wouldnt recomend running them with only 200 watts.
