yea and hows the outfield shaping out? CP/DuBois/Hollandsworth? Pending a huge free agent signing or someone willing to take a lowball offer, the cubs are very unlikely to sign anyone thats not already past their prime. Maggs is all but gone to tigers. Burnitz? Please. Not only did they NOT get julio in the deal, they got harriston jr who bats no better then .260 and who is normally a second baseman. Yea he can play the outfield but so what? We lost a 40hr/100 rbi outfielder that is not replacable. He did so much for the cubs and now we are throwing him away just like we did Mark Grace. Remember what he did to bring back fans to the staduim and give the cubs sothing to watch when they were terrible in the mid/late 90's. So what that he left the last game, hell i was at that game and i didnt even want to be there. So did plenty of other fans, i couldnt even GIVE AWAY an extra ticket to that game. With the terrible performance the last 15 or so games agaisnt some of the worst teams in baseball, sosa has every right to be ****ed off. If you remember, during that stretch he was the only one making contact and getting on base. I stayed at my apt and skipped classes to watch every game during the end of the season.

What a terrible trade and what a terrible day for the cubs.

I assume you're a cubs fan? Why are you calling him a shame? is it because he didn't put up "sammy sosa numbers?" Don't be so quick to forget what he's done for the team over the years. It sucks the way he left, but I guess it's time for him to move on.

I'm actually somewhat of an O's fan here in Baltimore and I can say that I'm not happy about the team picking up Sosa. My family didn't even renew our season tix after Cal's last year and we certainly aren't interested in going to more than a game or two this season. It's just another last ditch attempt by the owner (Peter "can I get by with another crappy team for fans" Angelos). The O's keep trying to get by with old timers and young no namers that are thrown into the game because our farm system sucks and we need to have people on the team to keep playing. I really was hoping we'd pick up Delgado, but after offering 48 million to him and losing, Angelos said he's not going to put up the money to pay overpriced players. Who knows, maybe adding Sosa into the mix of Palmeiro, Lopez, and tejada will help, but we won't finish better than third behind the Yankee's and Redsox.

As an Orioles fan, I say keep him! I wish they would have pursued Delgado or Beltran a little more aggressively. Camden Yards will be a good ballpark for Sammy (I'm sure he'll hit the warehouse a few times), but if he sneezes we're doomed. Definitely to this trade. Jerry Hairston is too promising to trade away for someone like Sosa. I've been complaining for years that the ownership of the Orioles doesn't go after anybody, then after signing Tejada and Lopez I thought they were going somewhere. Now they do this and completely bash my hopes.

He just didnt put the number's up like they wanted him to. whenever the game was on the line and he would blow it i guess u could say. Also there is no way he is worth 17mill. for that i say im glad he is gone.. With his srike out % was nuts.
Every one is allowed to say what they want. I am a Cubs fan, Born and raised and I am glad they got rid of him, time for some new Blood.

That's because every swing is for the fences. He doesn't know how to play small ball and manufacture runs.

I agree balt needed and needs pitching badly. But haristion is too promising? Hes already what almost 30 yrs old? Whats his career avg? .260? And sosa is a *proven* super star and he still is better then a lot of OF's out there. 40hrs/100 rbis are pretty nice...

But yea sign some pitching beacause everyone is gonna tee off on your pitchers...we'll give you anyone in our bullpen if u want them haha.

Story of the cubs right there, the whole offense doesnt know how to play small ball and manufacture runs. Doesnt help when u got a crappy coach who chooses not to bunt and move the runners over. I remember a game this year that the cubs had bases loaded no outs, in TWO consecutive innings ( yes two times back to back) and scored a big fat ZERO RUNS. god...It sucks being a cubs fan sometimes...i guess it could be worse, i could be a sox fan

Ok, maybe 'too promising' was an overstatement on my part. At least he's not expected to hit 60+ homers every year. And Hairston has never thrown out his back sneezing.

True true...i am just very bitter and mad that the cubs are doing this. As it is, they made no key moves this off season...so they didnt get better at all and just now took a big step backwards...so from going no where to backwards, just sucks....

^ I hear ya. Baltimore has been doing that for years. Until something is done about a salary cap or something they'll never compete with the Yankees and Red Sox. Sometimes I think the O's would be better off in the NL East, we could hang with the Braves, Phils, Mets, Marlins and Expos/Nationals.

baltimore finishing behind the sox every year has nothing to do with salary, they always field a talented team that just cant win enough games.

and theres no way baltimore could "hang with the braves", and probably not the marlins or mets anymore

thats my opinion. dont kill me please

Meh, the Braves don't impress me like they used to. And the Mets don't live up to the hype, but we'll see if that changes after the moves they've made this offseason.

But what I meant by 'hanging' with them is they wouldn't finish the season in 3rd place 30 games back. I think they'd keep the race much closer.

The worst part about sosa was that he was horrible for the clubhouse. No one wanted to play with him. He thought his **** didnt stink and basically cast a negative aura in the clubhouse. I hate the cubs w/ a passion and wish he stayed longer.

fair enough, i agree somewhat

and the thing about sosa is... he was always overrated, even when he hit homeruns. he couldnt do much if his team was losing, he would either strike out or hit a homerun when his team is already down by 10

sosa hasnt been good for 5 years at least. in my opinion. which is often extremely different than the norm... my mom says im special

I am a passionate Cubs fan. I enjoyed watching Sammy put the numbers out there a few seasons ago, but that was his peak. We had him at his greatest, and then he walked out on them last season. Good riddance, no more salsa music blasted in the locker room disturbing the other players. Baltimore is no warmer than Chicago, so the O's will have to wait for July and August for anything impressive from him. Mark Grace was a far bigger loss to this team.
