Bonneville is officially dead!

Just read this news article that confirms the rumors that GM will discontinue the Pontiac Bonneville. I for one will not miss it and hope that the Grand Prix soon follows. It will be interesting to see what pontiac does at the top and bottom of the line now that the Bonneville and Sunfire are gone. http://yahoo.reuters.com/financeQuot...n066022_newsml

They dont need the Gxp line up of the Bonville, THe new Grand Prix Gxp has the same amount of hp then the Boneville. MY dad will be happy to know they killed it since he already thinks is Gxp is going to be a collectors. I call mid-life criss.

Maybe, but not for a little while. With the G6 coming out, and the GTO... they've put too much into to kill it now. Maybe in 10 years, who knows.

Are there any plans to replace them or are they just thining down the lineup?? Maybe its just part of the plan to make Pontiac look like their sport line, sunfire and bonneville never really fit that description so maybe that's why?

I don't think Pontiac will be the next Oldsmobile/Plymouth at all. The way I see it, Pontiac is the next GM brand after Cadillac to be majorly overhauled. Losing the old names and the history that goes with them is a great way to change peoples opinions of a car. The vehicles that GM is bringing in to replace the old cars are on the whole much better cars. The GTO is a better car than the Firebird ever was, the G6 is much more refined than any Grand Am, and the Torrent will sell much better than the Aztek! The Sunfire was just a cheap way to milk the J body platform for as much as it was worth. The new Pontiacs are going to diferentiate themselves from other GM cars by more than looks now. Sometimes a brand must change every vehicle it sells in order to change the opinons of buyers. Audi, Acura, Cadillac, and Infiniti have used this method and it has worked out fairly well for al of them.

Yep, but not the northstar based v8 like the Bonnie had, it's the 5.3 truck engine with 303 HP.

Yes, the 3800SC will be going bye bye and relegated to only the Impala SS and Monte SS. Those will probably get the same V8 in a year or two as well if their sales are strong enough to keep the cars around. Oddly enough, we had a Impala LS in FL 2 weeks ago and outside the blah interior...I actually thought the car rode and drove very nice.

Bonneville is a decent car, but is pointless. It's way too much money and those who are going to pay $40k on a sedan aren't going to buy a focking Pontiac. How can I figure this out but GM couldn't in the last 2 years when redesigning this car??? Way to waste time and money you could have allocated elsewhere. The Sunfire will be the next to be axed here pretty soon, keep your eyes and ears open.

And how is Pontiac the next to go under I think they are GM's 2nd or 3rd best division!!! Very ignorant comment...sorry.

I'm just curious, what figures do you have that show that all of these cars aren't selling. I know the 2004 GTO didn't sell as well as they had intended, but if i remember correctly(and i could be wrong), i thought Vibe sales were increasing at the end of last year. Now i think its to early to determine G6 sales, but i see atleast 2 or 3 of those cars everyday around here.

check final sales numbers on the GTO....it definitely sold once they stopped the BS overpricing by dealers and included finance options and regular rebates.

Too early for the G6 to be called out. And Vibe seems to be a decent, average seller.

Yea, I see Vibes cruising around here and there. I think if the G6 takes hold, it will take off nicely.

So 99+ Grand AM still remains as Pontiac's most recent success.

Awesome, I'm glad GM is killing off another historic nameplate to compensate for the whole company's inability to find any identity with their cars- why fix the problem? Just kill it off.

The Bonneville was an ungainly huge car, but it was a very comfortable and fast car, as I found out when I got to drive my friend's. The ones from the early to late 1990's were really nice cars I thought also, but alas, like the Aurora, another fine sedan goes away just when it reaches its pinnacle.

RIP Bonneville, say hello to the Riviera, Eldorado, Grand Am, Trans Am, Camaro, Beretta, Toronado, Cutlass and Fiero for me when you see them in that big, metaphorical "Car's killed off by GM's beancounters" garage in the sky.

You think the bonnie was fast? The SSEI was slower than a Grand Am, SE or GT. The GXP is probably a different story, but as Bob said, who wants to pay $38k or so when they could buy a caddy or lexus or something 10x better for that price.
