2006 Lexus IS News: Pricing info released

Quote:
Diesel At Last For Lexus IS

Sleeker, faster and now available with diesel power for the first time, the new Lexus IS promises to be a fiercer challenger than ever to BMW's 3-Series.

Set to be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show next month, the Japanese car has an impressive engine line-up to match its sporty looks. The entry-level IS250 will be powered by a 215bhp 2.5-litre direct-injection V6, while the flagship IS350 will have a 315bhp 3.5 V6. The first diesel engine to be offered in the range is a newly developed four-cylinder 2.2-litre direct-injection turbo D-4D unit, with power being sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual. Petrol variants, however, will feature a sequential automatic transmission instead.

The new IS range is expected to hit British showrooms in early 2006, priced from around £19,000.

I'm confused, isn't 19,000 pounds like $24,000? Thats a hell of a deal! 315 HP from a V6, Toyota is putting out some good engines, they keep this up and they'll be the #1 selling manufacturer in the world in no time! The car looks good, although I see a little Mazda 3 in the side view because of the short rear deck. This is definately one to watch develop.

honestly, i think thats the case with most of the newer cars. they all have the same smooth sides. i mean i guess its kind of like that with older cars too but yeah. thats why i like the ribs on the GA it adds some texture (i guess that soudns right) and it looks good.

on topic.

it does look nice but nothing really stands out with it. kind of blends in with the rest of the cars out now.

^Now that's what I mean by class leading. Plus it has a powerful V6 engine. Expect a GT version in the future that pumps out more HP/Torque possibly paired with a Hybrid motor.

The new IS is looking more appealing by the minute. Now the IS is better than both the Buick Lacrosse and Lucurene. Imagine that. More expensive though, but still.

does anyone make a heated/AC'd steering wheel? I was just thinking of that.. I'm tired of my wheel being too damn hot or too cold to hold.. sorry.

Yes. Actually, the 2k2- 2k3 and the '04+ Maximas have a heated steering wheel. So does the Infinitis.

Didn't you read the article? 3.5 liter 315 Horsepower V6. Sounds a little better than Supra power to me.
