New to car audio....need alot of advice

Well, ive taken the big step and decided to get some more sound out of my 2000 GAGT. Ive taken care of the head unit and got a Pioneer DEH-8400mp. Looks nice and i was told its a good deck as well. Now as for the rest of the audio?..everything is stock!
I need some help deciding on a good 10 inch sub. Ive been told i should get a bigger sub but ill be happy with a single 10 since i actually use my trunk alot(im a simple boy with simple dreams and little money) Anyway, what should i be looking for when buying a good 10 inch sub? Also, what type of enclosure should i buy for it? Lastly, do i need an amp to run the 10 inch or will it not need that much power? If i DO need an amp, what should i be looking for?
Anyway help would be greatly appreciated.....i know nothing really.

it all depends on what you want..

go to some decent car audio place where they have speakers setup and listen to the different subs... thats the best way

since trunk space is important to you.. id get a sealed box.. and you will most definately need an amp

does the 10 inch really suck that much power? In all honesty, ive been to a few aduio places and i cant tell the difference between the subs. I dont really know what im trying to look for and all the subs seem like they pound pretty good.....im hopeless!
alos, will a 2 channel amp be enough? And will my battery have enough juice to power everything?

it all depends on what you're looking for man... are you looking for just a little more thump or loud pounding bass or high quality bass or a balance of everything?

for a decent bump.. look for something around the 300-500 watt range

go for a 1 channel mono class d amp if all you are powering is a sub

your electrical system should be fine up to 1000 watts.. but you'll probably notice a lot of dimming especially at that wattage

as for the size of sub.. if you like rap go for a 12.. if you like rock go for a 10

let us know what your budget is first, and then we can start picking out subs.

and please disregard the whole myth about "10's play cleaner than 15's" and various other spins on that. a 15" can have every bit as much quality to the sound as a 10".

really?...but can i expect alot more distortion with a 15ich?
My budget is probably around 100 bucks for everything since i can get car audio for cheap through my friends or even ebay. As far as what im looking for? I just want a little more bass for my music....and i especially dont want anything that you'll hear rattling from outside. Ive sat in alot of my friends cars and they will blow your eardrums while you are sitting inside the car but as soon as you get out, all you hear are 100 different things rattling. OK, so say a 400 watt sub with a mono amp but what about all those other specs they say with an amp...are those important too? My friend told me get either a JL audio or Fosgate sub....or an Eclipse sub if i can afford it. Are those all good companies? What about about the amp?...what ahould i be looking for?

thanks alot guys....as always!

100 bucks is tough to work with... a wiring kit is going to cost you 30-40 bucks on its own..

all those companies you listed are good.. no way you can get an amp + sub + wiring kit + box for a 100 bucks

minimum i think would be around this:
wiring kit $20-40
sub $50+
amp $100+
box $50+

as for specs .. it is very important.. you want to match an amp with a sub correctly.. otherwise you wont use it to its full potential.. .and as for watts.. make sure its watts RMS.. not watts peak

for 100 bucks, youre not gonna get any sub or system for that matter to remotely sound good. heck, a baselink isnt even 100 bucks.

You really do need to save up man. You'll be so much better with about triple that budget. Anything you buy for 100 is not going sound good or be the true lasting quality that you'd want, especailly when you have that awesome Pioneer Headunit. Your system is off to a great start, just keep savin.

just let us know what your realistically wanting to spend on your setup and we will guide you to the best out there. My setup is over $3500 and i dont regret 1 penny of it, and still going to add more.

UNC, ill probably go little by little since i cant afford to buy everything at once. But the problem with the sub is that if i spend the extra cash on a sub and then wait to buy a high end amp, i cant use the sub!....you see what im saying? Buy i saved up for my head unit and im sure i can save up for the sub. Realistically, im looking to spend 100 bucks on the sub, 100 on the amp, probably 40 on the box and wiring i can get off my buddies. These are all canadian prices as well.

i dont know what those are in u.s. prices, but that doesnt seem like much. I dont know, maybe thats what you want, but for that kind of money you might not be satisfied with the sound. Unless you find a really good deal, i would just save up for a basslink or something.

thank UNC....now as far as amps are concerned, would it be a good idea to get a multi channel amp for my setup?
My brothers friend is selling his JL audio 5 channel amp for pretty cheap and i was wondering if i should get it.
That leads me to my final question, how do i mount the sub upside down. I just go a sweet deal on a brand new audiobahn sub with the flames that ive always wanted and i wanna mount it upside down. Ive seen it done and i was wondering how i would go about doing that.

Save up for a better system. I made a mistake by buying cheap 2 12" subs. The amp is only pushing around 120W at 4 ohm for both subs. They are heavy enough to make my car slower and they take a lot of space. Unless you want to listen to rap and make yourself heard blocks away, a decent 10" such as Kicker will give you some good bass.
