Supercharger Progress....

Im sure no-one really cares. But anyway...

Got the bigger injectors in this weekend. Soldered in the newer connectors to my older harness to support the trailblazer injectors. Replaced the heater core hoses, and got the breather filter in. The powder coated manifolds & valve covers are on.

Now, I have an engine check light on. The code is that the bank 1 is running to rich. (To be expected from the injectors) At WOT, it stutters like all hell, like its misfiring or fuel cut off or something. I'm hoping/imagine it's from the injectors causing this.

So at this point, I need to plug in the DHP PCM (Which is programmed for the bigger injectors by Dave) & to see if it will work with my Malibu. Also, It's prgrammed for the 4T45 & not my 4T40 - which i messed up on, so it will have to be sent back to be fixed.

Ordered a gatorback belt which is on backorder, and wont be sent out till end of march for the SC with the 2.5" Pulley.

So once I receive the belt, Get the TB bracket & a plug I need that comes with the SC kit from John at APOC (he forgot to send) and I get the correct DHP PCM, and DHP Programmer. I will be able to install the Supercharger and have it tuned. From their I think I should be good.

Ill post pics & dyno results after completetion.

All the 'Boost Brothers' care. Out of curiousity, why didn't you go with the Gates K061037? Have you tested the SC yet?

John at Apoc said he tested it & everything was in wokring order before he sent. I haven't tested the SC yet because the car isnt running right. Want to get that sorted out before I add the SC on. Also, I need the TB bracket, and some other stuff from John to get it hooked up. Im also waiting on the modified instructions from him for the GEN3 so I have some clue what I am doing. The clearance between the SC and the water housing doesnt look possible, John said it was possible by loosening the bolts on the housing, and fitting in the SC in, and tightening the bolts on the SC bracket & water housing simataneously.
I think Im just going to bring it to a local shop, have them install the SC because of all the little pain in the @$$ things from the prototype Gen 3 to deal with. This way they can install and tune all at once.

I could go with the Gates belt if I had everything, and was ready to install the SC. But since Im still waiting on many parts, I figured the Gatorback would still get here sooner than everything else. I like the Gatorback because of it's preshrunk, it's more durable, more quiet, etc etc.

I care, I'm always interested in seeing what everyone is up to. I remember reading a while back that you had a set of underdrive pulleys, you might want to remove them if you haven't already. They slow the supercharger down. But you probably know that already

Yeah, schweppe filled me in on that already. I put the stock ones back on, but I have problems with it misfiring a bit since I put the stock one back on. I think the ring is bent a little? I plan to buy the RSM one, and put new ring in it. I have $60 credit there so i figured I'd pick it up. It's stock diameter, so it should work.

Isn't the RSM one smaller than stock? Or is it just lighter?

edit: Nevermind, I see you said stock diameter, well that is good then, just lighter, less rotating mass, which is always good.

I believe someone called RSM, and they said they had one an inch? smaller than stock, and one that is stock size.

They have stock diameter size. For the 2.4's they offer an underdrive and stock size.

My mistake.

Babalouie, do you any pics or timeslips? Has RSM sponsored you? You sound like you have a most impressive ride!

I can get you some pics in a little bit. I need to take some new ones and i plan on buying a digital camera soon. I'm in the process of of final tuning it, had to ignore the car the remaining of last summer and this winter (had some other issues I had to take care of non car related). I am not sponsered by RSM, I live just 5 min away from the shop so I'm always aware of whats going on around there. When they were at SEMA and a couple of other small shows, I did all of their video's/multimedia displays.

Wait, you have the larger injectors without having the SC installed??? The car would run PIG rich without the extra air flowing from the SC. I believe most have ran overtly rich with the 42lber's. I have the DHP and stockers, ran 2.4" pulley and she ran fine 14.3 - I would suggest the stock injectors and DHP tuning EVEN WITH HEADS.

Indeed, It's pig rich like a l3itch. I can only do so much each weekend. I need the car to get to work during the week. So as soon as I receive al the parts I need, I will slap the SC on there. John from APOC recommended the larger injectors with the 2.5" pulley, and I have the DHP PCM tuned for them. Just need to work some bugs out.

He is using the 4.2L injectors out of the trailblazer/envoy, I believe they flow approximately 28.1lbs/hr. And if the tune is set for these he'll be fine. Dave has scaled the IPW's on those injectors on both mine and Homegrown's so it should be right on. Those runnability issues you are having now are from the injectors. Before I got mine tuned it would barely idle and didn't pull all that well either, but i was running a DHP N/A beta tune on top of everything too. Aleroboy had no ill effects from the larger injectors running stock cal. but i think he ported out the MAF to help lean him out a touch too.

Right, DHP is god to our PCMs.

But, from what I have seen, the larger injectors are not really necessary. Of course it is always best to go from rich to lean (than lean to rich as it was with the stockers) with the injection, but the stockers do fine for me (99 PCM on 00 injectors). I am getting about 15-18mpg now, I know if I had the car tuned on a dyno by DHP with my setup I could prolly get more HP and better ET w/better MPG... but alas NY to MI = too much.

If you take her to DHP you will be all set.

Of course, but the car if the car is stalling as he said above, and if the car bogs at WOT clearly the car is WAAAAAAAAAY rich. He's like silver spoons - you want to be more like webster - comfortable. And of course he is wasting thousands in mods by running it that rich, ideally DHP can get the mix perfect and still very cery safe.

Yes. it's WAY to rich right now, but Im using the car ONLY for work and back, and dont plan to have it like that for long. I'm putting hte DHP PCM in this weekend, but the need some more tweaking done to it. Currently Im just waiting on parts from APOC, DHP, and Summit. As soon as I have the stuff, the SC is in & will be tuned properly.
