Talking My RSM SC experience>>

Well, after the long haul into Canada, I dropped my car off to the guys at RSM for the install of my supercharger, and also had them change out the motor mount for good measure. Install took about three days due to the oil needs of the centrifugal charger and the fact that I had California/NY emissions on my car (d'oh).

So after many sleepless nights (two), I finally got to pick my car up from the friendly people who worked on it. When they handed me my keys, I practically ran to the car and opened the hood... man that thing is beautiful. They even threw in a K&N breather.

So on first startup... I noticed right away the whine from the blower... man that sounds sick! When you get on it and let off, the blow off valve is true music. Once out on the road, the car pulls SOOO much harder... traction is definately an issue now. On the highway, the car accelerates like crazy... its a huge difference.

As for the computer, the transmission line pressure is increased, there's no MAF sensor on my car anymore, the fuel table "potential" has been expanded for the OBDII to learn the flows of the SC... other than that, its left stock. RSM promised to recall my computer once they are done figuring out a perfect one with the help of some SC companies like Vortech.

So that's that... here are some pictures:

God-willing, I'm going to be heading to the track within the next couple of weeks depending on the weather... and I'll definately get a dyno run done this winter over christmas break...

The pictures aren't the best, I had my dad send them from his camera... we're going to have to have a "compression discussion"...

Awesome Rob!!! Glad to hear that it all got done, especially playing with the NY/CA emission junk. I bet she is pulling very hard, what boost do you run her at - 7-9lbs peak right? Did you end up putting the cat back on?

BOV is schweet too.... (You need to do a song/vid of that and the car now!)

well, the SC and all necessary parts you can get from RSM , the kit comes complete with everything you need except a super-thin $60 battery. I had the tranny mount changed, that was about $180... and install... about 20 hours +/- 7.5 (I forget exactly how long it took them), you figure $35/hour rate, thats about $700.

Obviously the install figures are highly theoretical, I suggest e-mailing your local speed shop and ask them how much they would charge for a complete install.

Sweet to hear about the SC. I was thinking about gettting it BUT I already maxed out the stock fuel system. Just be gentle on your tranny.

As for laying rubber at 20mph, I can do that It's fun especially when you are next to a import and your car starts going sideways at 20mph from wheelspin.

I have found a new hobby that you should look into too, it's called saving up for tires.

I run Bridgestone PP SO3's, $155 a tire,

Its a centrifugal supercharger not sure you could do headers. Does that work the same as a turbo they had to fab a custom manifold for the s/c?

No, it is just a regular non-intercooled shaft driven SC. The manifolds are the same intake/exhuast making the kit a "bolt-on." Good power out of the Vortechs though, better than the Eaton-roots, but less durable is what I have heard. How many miles does on really expect though? Laying rubber and WOT moves make one not to expect 150k miles out of these suckers.

150k would be good though!!!

Very nice, Rob. Are we placing bets yet on when your transmission will start screaming for mercy?

AAh, shhhh. There will be no talk of that mister. The line pressure increase should help the life, and I only put about 8,000 miles on my car/year (most of it 300+ mile drives on the highway)... I guess I should probably cut down on the tom-foolery a bit, eh?

Line pressure increase is good yet bad. Yeah when you up line pressure it promotes less slippage of gear engagement "where most tranny damage is done" BUT the harder the tranny engages the more wear and tear on physical parts of the tranny not just the gear teeth and engagement parts. So on one hand you have less damage to gear teeth and clutch parts, but on the other hand you have more stress on the assembly as a whole. Either way you are playing with fire, then again who doesn't like to play with fire??

Holy Sh*t!!!!!!! You mean to tell me that you spent over $5000 to supercharge you Ga and it will probably only run 14's? Must be nice to be rich and throw around 5g's. Hey I have a credit card that I could pay off. Have another 5K you need to loosen from your wallet? WOW! No offense Irate. Yeah your one of the few to have a boosted GA, but is spending that much cash REALLY worth what little performance you're gonna get out of it? Now if it added enough power to hit 300+HP fine. But like you said, its completely stock. Other than that, it does look cool, but not for the price.

Well you answered your own question. One of the few. Congrats Rob. Boost ain't cheap. $5,000 is not a lot of money when it comes to adding boost. To take the GA from a 15.7 to a likely 14.2 with the RSM is not bad at all. You have to drive it to appreciate it!!! The GA feels fast with boost, w/o it the car barely feels sporty at all. Barely, with minor mods(intake/exhuast), get heads and then we're talking... okay, start flaming me...... NOW!

Thank you pat... and frankly davidscott, take a ride in my car and you'll think different.

Boost is not cheap, take a look at most quality kits and you'll see the RSM kit is actually average to less-than-average in cost... its not $5,000 btw. Yeah the SC kit I have may only add 50-60 hp, but that doesn't mean that it is the full potential of the kit. I could put a smaller pulley on there and create almost 14lbs of boost if I wanted to, cranking out over 100 hp, but what the hell good would that be? I'd ruin my tranny and engine. This kit will run safely and consistently on my car for many tens of thousands of miles...

It was NOT a waste thank you.
