Sub/amp info needed from you stereo geeks

I use to be into stereos, ohhhh, about 10 years...but now I am not.

Suggestion of model number (for JL subs) and make & model for amp.

I want (2) 8" subs powered by one amp. These will be going into the hatch of the RX7 if I decide to do this. I DO NOT WANT GHETTO, SLAMMING, IDIOT BASS!!! I want tight, yet responsive bass, that rounds out the stereo sound. I have upgraded the HU, the door speakers, and the rear 6x8's but the car still lacks any bass response at all.

I'd have these positioned so that they fit in the slide through area into the hatch, under the rear STB. (like they are in the RX7 in The Fast and The Furious).

I'm not spending a fortune here folks, nor going into stereo competitions, etc. JL makes good sh1t, that's why I want their subs. (seems they're $90 a piece for an 8", if you can find/do better I'd go with that if I decide to buy).

if you're stuck on JL, get two 8 W7's and two 500/1's. that'll probly make you on of the happiest 8 owners in the world.

You can get something decent sounding for a few hundred. Just get whatever subs are in your pricerange. JL's are very good. They are clean. Go with a sealed box if you want tight responsive bass. Personally, id go with 10's. Im not really into crazy systems, but i havent heard an 8's that dont sound weak. Match the rms of the subs with the amp.

Thank you!! Would still like some more input though from others.

8's are plenty for an RX7. Very little interior cabin size, not to mention the 8's diameter fits the clearance of the hatch floor and rear STB. An appropriate box and power supply will be plenty for what I want.

I dig JL a lot, but I actually prefer kicker more when you don't want huge bass and have space constraints.. If you're trying to keep it small, and just want some tight thump.. personally I'd go with one kicker s8l7.. The last stereo on my GA, I wanted a tiny box but still with the thump, the one 10" solo baric did the trick perfect. It's max box size for an 8" sub with a sealed box is about .6 with a min of .3 cubic feet I think, which is tiny, and it makes big sound.. Put about 300 watts RMS to it (it can handle much more) and you'll have all the bass you ever need..

I had one JL 8w0 in my wife's bug powered by one Kicker ZR-120. It by no means pumped out mind blowing bass, but it did fill out the spectrum.

The w0 is JL's low end, but it served it's purpose. It was priced good too.

I would of liked to have two 8w0's sealed with about 140w RMS. Sealed volume for these is .3 to .6 cubic feet. Hardley anything at all.

These subs take about 75w RMS or so, so an amp shouldn't run you too much.

Actually, I still have my wife's 8w0 if you are interested. Just make me an offer.

ive been a JL owner all my life. Cant think of one thing bad about them or have heard. I dont know much about 8 inch subs, but if you want solid clean bass, JL is my opinion.

odd... my buddy has an rx7 as well and is running that exact setup.

2 jl 8w3v2s. and a kicker amp. i don't recall what it cost him but i dont think it was too expensive. and it fills out the need for bass absolutely perfectly. like it was mentioned before you could get away with 1 probably

Good to see you around again, Bob!

Honestly, I would go with one 10" W3v2 or W6 if you can fit it in there. If not, then the two 8" W3v2's would be perfect for you. I'd say power them with a JL 250/1 amp. You can pick one of those up new from Ebay for around $200 or cheaper. If you can fit the 10", then stick with the 250/1 also. That will do you just fine and you could get away with it for $300 or less depending on what you choose to go with.
Here's a link to two W3v2's:

Why do you want 2? You can probably get away with just 1 10w3v2 (300w) or 1 10w6v2 (400W) even...or if you really want 8's I would get 2 8w3v2 (125w ea)

as for the amp check out alpine instead if you dont want to spend as much money, JL makes nice amps but I've been pleased with my alpine too and it was a fraction of the cost

I DON'T WANT A 10" SUB I want something small, that can be customized to look symmetrical and nice, and will provide just enough adequate, tight, bass. I don't want one big sub sitting in the middle of nowhere, there isn't much room in the hatch!!

Amp does not have to be JL, only subs.

considering about less then 5 people on this site prob have 8inch subs, you're not gonna get much help outside of the people like myself telling you are experiences with different companies. You're on your own i guess, unless you can find someone who can attest to a good 8 inch sub.

Like I said up above, I had a JL 8" and was very happy with it.

Bob, not sure if you ever met '1_nice_gt' Brian with the red 94 GT HO coupe, back in the 'Dan's shindig' days. He had those 3 JL 8's in the rear deck. W3's IIRC. They sounded great, plenty of bass output... I'm sure just 2 would be fine.

Since I'm out of the loop on teh amp hotness, I don't really have any suggestions here... tho I know you won't need anything big to power those subs.

if you are stuck on JL, then get the 8W7's. they are honestly probly the best 8 i have ever heard. or depending on how much you want to spend, get 8w0's or 8w3v2's. it's up to you really, but they are all decent subs, just with varying levels in performance as well as money.

i personally would prefer another companies 8's, but that's what you want so that's what you get.

pretty much any decent amp with the right wattage will do fine, i highly doubt you will be pushing the 8"s to any limits so i would just go with an average cost, decent build amp like kicker or likewise
