Don't buy a CTS-V...another GM braindead move is killing the car.

It sure is...they want something to compete (and beat) with the new M5. It is definately a go and you will see it in a year or so. It'll be pretty radical from what I've heard. Radical by carbon fiber parts, 500+hp S/C LS6(?), low ride height. It should be a hell of a car when it comes out.

My Dad's CTS-V is absolutely killer. You wanna talk about a balls to the wall tourque monster! If you're considering a CTS-V...do it! I've personally driven my dads multiple times, and I absolutely love it. It's basicanlly a 4 door vette. Sooo fast, and handles like it's on rainls (plus the T56 6-speed is just a blast). Absolutely awesome car. I don't quite understand how you think it's a "Braindead move". Have you ever driven one?

just like the current CTS-V with its crap interior and exploding differentials?

GM put a diff in that is rated at 310 ft lbs. Take a wild guess what is happening to these cars.

one guy stopped on the GTO board to get some info from GTO owners. He has gone through 3 diffs on TWO different cars. All under 8000 miles. Many others have this happening too, or else the diff just gets whiny. This has been kept very hush hush because of the reputation Caddy is trying to build. Word is they aren't going to extend the warranty on the diff for the eternity of the car either.

So, in essence, they put a 310 ft lb peak rated diff in a 395 ft lb car...people are now having problems...they are being fixed under warranty...but when the warranty time is up and the diffs keep breaking due to inaccurate tolerance, people are SOL.

is there any way to fix it for good? i know i sound dumb but i dont know much (anything at all) about diffs, and my girlfriend has been seriously considering the cts-v or the sts-v (same problem here or no?) within a year and i would like to be as well informed as possible...
if its too much of a pain to explain or you just dont wanna haha if you know of any helpful forums or such that would be much appreciated, thanks

I'm sure they'll come out with something. My dad has run into diff problems (the gears howl at about 45). But damn guys, just because GM doesn't put the right diff in the car makes the whole thing a POS? Seriously, the car is a kick ass car. Maybe if people didn't beat the living **** out of their V's, the diff's would last. Blowing up your diff certainly means that you're not being nice to your car...think about it. You're so used to flamming GM and our Grand Am's that you're all convinced that GM makes worthless cars. Why don't you just give GM the credit that even though it's not perfect, the V line of Cadillacs is a step in the right direction?

or maybe they can put the right diff in the first place....focktard you should read, they areant beating the crap out of them.....and the CTS-V's interior is crap compared to its competion. Oh and no...its nowhere near close to as fast as the vette buddy.

Every car has its problems....

But for spending that much money, you'd think they would FIX the problem instead of just postponing it a little longer....

Yea kinda why spend 50k+ on a car you know is going to break? Just buy a z06 instead at least you know thats designed to take some abuse. Fixing it under warranty is cool but whats the point of replacing it with the same underdesigned part that will break again

That's genius...perhaps you'd like to go tell all the CTS-V owners who spent close to $60k on a car (after tax/title/etc.) to go upgrade their own differential

Same goes for HiFiCarGuy and his "it's a POS because they put the wrong diff in" comment.

YES, it sorta is. People always forget that the SYSTEMATICAL NEED of a vehicle is to transport you from point A to point B. If that doesn't occur then you are not getting its basic need. (this is also why I pay first attention to "go" on a car and not looks when I modify) If a damn differential is not strong enough to handle the HP/TQ that these $100k+ a year engineers are designing into a car...then your vehicle is a POS in essence.

Example: The B-1 Bomber...who knows what it is? How many have you seen or heard of in use? Yeah, that's what I thought......It's a great aircraft that was highly developed and looks beautiful. It is a large bomber that can fly almost like a fighter aircraft (nap of the earth, supersonic, swing wings like the F-14). However, unless there are seriously redesigned black ops going on, they sit and collect dust because they were designed mainly for nuclear payload. They tried to fix that by retrofitting the bomb bay for multiple conventional bombs....however...it costs too much to maintain and fly that aircraft for the very limited number of missions they can fly. If it doesn't include carpet bombing a large area, they are of no use.

You cant totally blame the engineers its probably some corporate big shot or project manager who has the title "engineer" and thinks he can value engineer certain things out to save money...I come across it all the time
