2007 Toyota Supra News: Details on next Supra; 450hp V8 rumored

Quote:
What We Know: Contrary to rumors, Toyota's Supra replacement will in no way, shape or form, bear any resemblance to the Giugiaro-designed Volta concept which appeared in Geneva last March. Toyota does, however, plan on delivering a high-performance sports car along the lines of the departed Supra some time between the end of 2006 and 2007. This two-door, front-engine, rear-wheel-drive sport coupe might be built on an all-new platform, although it's expected that Lexus will not build its own variation. Toyota's luxury subsidiary will instead build its own supercar based on the LF-A concept shown at this year's Detroit auto show. The car will probably be priced from around $30,000 and some sort of prototype could very likely debut at the 2005 Tokyo Motor Show.

Quote:
What Edmunds.com Says: Toyota could use some more exciting cars in its lineup and a new Supra should do the trick.

What We Know: Lexus has stolen much of Toyota's sportscar thunder with the unveiling of the LF-A concept, but that doesn't mean that a more affordable Supra replacement isn't still in the works. Although it's not likely to share many parts with the more expensive LF-A, Toyota's new sportscar should have plenty of performance thanks to a high powered V6 that will produce at least 300 horsepower. Expect to see its debut at the Tokyo Motor show in October, with sales starting sometime next year.

YAY!!! Supra is coming back!

So I was right. Toyota is focusing on performance now. Their latest engine offerings are an indication of that.

I6 > *

I really hope Toyota doesn't cop out with a V6 or V8.

They probably will use both V6 and V8. The new IS does not use an I6. Rather, it uses a V6 as well as a deisel. Rumor is that the GT model of the IS will use a V8.

adding...hopefully sometime next year. And it's going to be an automatic because they are actually quicker..which is good because the 6-speed is about $5k more on average.

That car looks nothing like the Supra, it's more like the Toyota 2000GT of the sixties

My god, I hope it doesn't look like that when it comes back.

I6? Eh... time to move on, and YES I know the deal on the original Supra engine etc...

My frined has an IS300, he bought a Supra engine for it since he killed the old engine and wanted lower compression, he had a supercharger and after a few months it started blowing smoke, he's going to install some rediculously large supercharger on this new engine. Probbaby will turn his transmission into poweder. He's an electrical and mechanical engineer so he likes to break things and then fix them.
