What sub to choose...

Im selling my custom made sub box with amp/ cap mount and my 2 pioneer 800watt dvc subs, and im looking to spend at the most $120 for 1 12" sub. Its been some time since ive been in the sub-buying area and i was wondering what you guys thought were the best within that price range. Thanks.

The eD 13kv.2. I have one in my car, and it's the most accurate 12 (well it's technically a 13) that I have ever heard. It goes low and loud. edesignaudio.com is the website, Elemental Designs is the company, check it out.

i got 2 12' inch Alpine Type-R's for $200 at a local "Swap O' Rama" (in Alsip). Its kinda like a flea market, but the subs are new and have a 12 month warrenty if anything breaks on them. So mabye check your local flea markets.

mb quart.. clarity?? wtf do u want clarity in a sub for thats what mids and tweets are for.. and dude that wants the sub.. it all depends what kinda tunes u listen to man.. if u want some deep thumpin rap type bass get JL or Kicker or something.. If u want a tighter bass for like rock or pop those wont be as defined and crisp but in the same they will be awesome for deep thump where as other subs might be sloppy and not hit the lows as well.

Dude what the hell.....you say why would he want clarity and then go on talking about tight subs that are crisp and defined.....and comparing it to sloppy ones......do you realize YOU are talking about clarity and accuracy????

Either way, Quart rock.....

akk u misunderstand and yes i know what i am talking about because i hang around people that compete in Iasca Stereo competitions

Clarity ratings are generally rated in mids/tweets.. they dont rank subs by what sounds clearer and more "pure" .. it is measured in decibals.. hense the DB tests..and huge thumpin vans.... All i meant with regards to tight is if he wants to listen to say country music he might not like the sound of a JL sub or a Rockford that is designed for deeper thumping rap bass as it my not have the tight snap of a mb .. but in the same respect the MB might not handle the low rumble of a bass cd or a Notorious BIG song as well..

Dude right now you are showing how LITTLE you know....you sound pretty young and inexperienced....Not only am I MECP Certified but I also used to be an IASCA Compeitior in SQ from 1996-1999....I won only 2 but was compeitive for all 4 years....this is back when PPI, Zapco and Soundstream were the top dogs in SQ and SPL. I did installations from 1998-2000 for companies like MTX and Image Dynamics in addition to part time stuff at Circuit City and American TV in Madsion, WI.

Its obvious that for certain types of music certain subs work better.....thats one of the first things that needs to be considered when looking to purchase a sub. Clarity and accuracy are different...though I would imagine you wouldnt know that since you prob. only like bandpass enclosures to bump your 50 cent.
In SPL competition....yes dB's are king and thats the only thing that matters.....in SQ....clarity throughout the entire range is most important...well in addition to staging. ANyway, I was recommending the Quart sub because certain models are a decent happy medium for most music....be it rock OR rap.

ahh **** whatever man... the guy wasnt asking about clarity and sq in a sub.. He is talking about spending 120 bucks on a sub for a box.. I was just telling him to make sure and listen to the subs as some arent made for rap and some are.. some are made for tight country bass some arent... I know about SQ and so on.. 2 of my best friends when to the Iasca North America finals a couple years ago with Kicker and Focal sponsored cars. I have been and always have been a basshead.. I loved soundstream(had over 4 grand in soundstream amps and subs alone in my camaro)

My bud that had the focal car used to have it precisely tuned for iasca events on one setting then flicked a couple buttons and had his normal setting for what he liked.. he had 2 13" focal subs and they didnt even use 1/2 their potential when hooked up for the sq stage but then when he was done the event he would just crank them way back up because people that didnt know anything about sq would just say man those subs suck for the price u paid for them when in reality they sounded damn sweet if they were actually aloud the power they needed to thump in a DB competition and drown out the highs.

so i am not a retard i was just stating he doesnt want to compete in iasca or anything he just wants a couple cheap/reasonable priced subs and i was just pointing out the sound variation each manufacturer has

oh and by the way you are 18 and i am 28... so i think i have been around stereos many more years than you seeing as i installed my first one when i was 15

I have Alpine Type S's, got both for 150 so u could probably find them cheaper or just go for an R. I think they're much better than the Pioneers i used to have, but i'm not too well informed about all the brands so.

id take 2 if ya can man. . unless u dont like thump? especially if you have a decent amp get a couple subs with dual voice coils and double the power in the amp. But like i said only if your amp will handle it. some cheaper ones will just cook like nothin. If you just want one though im sure u can find a nice JL or Alpine R somewhere for that much cash
