1997 4.6L Mustang GT = Crust

Okay, so me and my cousin were bored this weekend, so we decided to go to various car dealerships and give them the "my parents told me to come out and test drive cars, tell them what I think, and we would come back next weekend and probably buy it" speech. Anyways, it worked, I drove like 4 cars including a 2002 WS6 <-----Da-Aymn!!!!!! Anyways, the 2nd car I drove was a 1997 4.6L Mustang GT. It was a black convertable, 70,000 miles. I swear, and you can ask my cousin, but our Grand AM GT's would stomp this car. I don't know if something was wrong with it, but the delear said it passed all the inspections. Are these things just really slow stock? I mean, I burned the tires very nicely, but hey, don't most rwd cars do that regardless? But I think our cars, at least mine, would beat this by 1/2 to a car length. Lemme know what you guys think.

unless their is something wrong with it, theirs no way stock for stock you would be able to beat it with the same driver. Unless you have a 14sec factory freak, cause i believe thats what those run from the factory.

mid-high 15's actually. I've seen 95-97 gt's run low 15's with intake and exhaust, and a few other little things. It's very very similar to the grand am.

I raced a 97ish Mustang GT convertible auto at a track. My GA GT with WAI and SLP exhaust beat it.

4.6L Mustangs, as stated, were horrendous. And they couldn't be modified that graciously as the other versions could either. Add to it the weight of the convertible setup and a healthy GAGT could probably stay with it.

I'll take... "Really slow cars that look fast for 100" Alex.

On the Mustang forums, it is reported that the stock auto GT verts in that generation run 16's.

I test drove a 2000 mustang gt 5 speed dont know if the engine is any different than the 97 but that thing would've smoked my GA hands down. If it was an auto I wouldnt even waste time driving it

By then Ford had revised the camshafts, put some larger valves in it, and changed the intake manifold runners in order to improved airflow. It was up to 260hp by year 2000. Still weak sauce IMO.
