Under Construction Pictures

This is my first time posting pictures of my car. I haven't been a frequent poster on this site but I have been browsing the forums for quite a while now. I got my 1999 Grand Am GT for free from the body shop my dad works for. The car came in wrecked and the owners had no insurance so the car ended up sitting at the shop for about a year. After a hefty storage fee built up the owners decided to hand over the rights of the car. After waiting for a long time we finally were able to get the title to the car. As you can see from the pictures it definitely needed some work. My dad and I have been working on the car for a couple months now during our free time hoping to have it ready by early fall. Here are some pictures that I have taken with my camera phone showing some of the progress. Sorry about the terrible picture quality. I'll take better ones later.

Before work began on the car.

Current shot of the front end.

Filled in rear bumper "PONTIAC" indentation.

Shaved antenna.

Shaved trunk lock before final sanding and primer.

That's all the pics I have for now. I have a lot in store for this car. The front Pontiac arrowhead on the front bumper is also shaved but I don't have any pics right now of that. I have a SC/T spoiler sitting inside the car right now waiting to be painted and installed. I also have angel eye fogs and Intrax springs ready to go once the body work is finished. I plan on ordering the SC/T kit within the next couple weeks. I just thought I'd start posting more since my car is finally coming together. More pictures to come.

Oh yes. There was a lot of damage to the frame. Getting the frame straightened was the milestone repair. Everything else is basically bolt-on.

Lol, looks kinda like my car did a few months ago. Major front end re-construction is no fun! Thankfully I'm nearing the end of it.

Getting the car back to stock shape would probably cost about $1500 give or take. Lowering springs, struts, tint, LEDs, angel eye fogs, SC/T kit and spoiler, new black headlights, etc... are going to add a lot to that number. I owe a lot to my dad. He's a body man and can do all of the work so there's no labor cost. He gets a 30% parts discount through the shop and gets a hookup and the local junkyard. We had to buy a new hood, front bumper, air bags, windshield, small side window, low reverse lights, taillight, AC line, and plug wires. From a previous Grand Am SE job he did a while back he had a radiator, headlight bracket, fan bracket, condenser, front bumper beam, and a few other goodies laying around we were able to use. We turned the car on and found out it has 84421 miles on it. That's not too bad for a '99 I suppose. I really enjoy helping out to get this sucker fixed.

How do you straighten a unibody frame Usually when theres frame damage to a unibody its a done deal. Pretty cool you got it for free though at least you dont have to worry about resale value

this happened to me wen i got into a accident too, my frame buckled right where the front and back driver side doors meet, i think they cut that peice out n re-welded or something. But yea i also aggre with trying to fabricate your own body kit. It would be rediculous, theres so much stuff you can do with ur car right now its awsome. I suggest shaving the door handles, ive always wanted to do poppers myself just cuz i love the clean cut look on our cars. shaved antenna trunk, door handles, pontiac inlays, and all that stuff together with angel eyes, lowering springs, and a custom body kit? sounds like sex to me ol gl tho must be awsome. Oh yea and a side note. this junk yard, do you think you or your dad could look for a 2001 gt front bumper, no hardware just the bumper cover? im very desperate to get a hold of one for a good price..thanks

I'm going with a hidden antenna kit from Autoloc. You can mount it anywhere I believe. I will probably put mine above the rear view mirror mounted on the windshield.

I don't have it on yet. If you get yours on before me let me know how it works out. I've been told that the quality is just as good if not better than stock.

ive got that antenna and it sucks. mine is just above my rearview mirror and i dont get any AM and FM fades in and out.

your car looks to be coming along nicely. what color are you gonna paint it? id suggest a unique color, since your dad works for the body shop ill bet he gets good paint for pretty cheap.

Yes it is so far. We finished prepping it for painting tonight. I received my SC/T kit yesterday evening. I thought about going with WRX blue but decided to just go with the stock black since I'm a sucker for black cars. The car is getting painted on Sunday so I will have some new pics up then.
