2003 SC/T Hood Scoop Rust

I did a search on this topic but didnt find any information. On my 2003 GA (23,000 miles) the right (from drivers seat) hood scoop has began to rust. The dealer body shop mentioned a bulletin but I can't find anything about it. I wondered if anyone here has had a similar problem, and whether or not the dealer was reasonable in repairing the problem.

Thanks in advance!

Paul

(ps, I plan on taking my car to the dealer tonight to have the service manage look at it, I will inform you of my experience)

Hmmm I haven't had that problem with mine yet. The blocking plates in the hood are made of metal though. So it really doesn't surprize me . Which dealer do you use ? I usally take mine to D i c k Ide . Good luck

I bought the car from Piehler in Webster, they are lousy on service. I am visiting Patrick this afternoon.

Thanks!

yeah I am not surprise they are rusting. I just got my hood and it has metal inserts. I guess you can always spray them w/ a nice clear coat to prevent rust. Or you can just buy new grill inserts. There is a site online that sells just the SCT hood inserts. 2 different styles.

Do you have the site name available? Aren't the original ones quite difficult to remove?

Thanks!

Paul

Clear coating them will not prevent them from rusting. The inserts are already painted black, therfore the metal is already protected. Adding a clearcoat won't help anymore than adding a layer of paint.

Update:
Went to Patrick Pontiac in Rochester (Henrietta) and spoke with the service manager. Amazing, he said it would be no problem to fix it. He printed my VIN history, filled out a RO and took pictures of them to show to GM. He said they would contact me when the parts came in.

Thanks!

Paul

I got it after an accident I got into. I asked my body shop to order that hood instead of my stock. They told me that their GM store ordered it directly from GM. So I assume GM? I got it last year (2004).

Btw, my hood is fiberglass.

Edit: took a few quick pics. Sorry for the dirtyness...the car's been in my garage for months and I haven't washed it

First pic is my attempt of the plastic piece that closes my vents. Second one is the underhood view of it. Third one is just an overview of the underside of the hood.
