new owner of avic-n2

so back when i was workin at best buy before school, pioneer was doing a promotion for employees to teach them about the n2 and d1. It was a contest thing where whoever got the highest score in their region was put in a drawing for either a new n2 or d1.

so i came back from workin out yesterday and had a missed call from some guy at pioneer. called him back, and as you probably could have guessed already, i am the proud new owner of a FREE avic-n2.

cant wait to go home and put this thing in!

anyone have any reviews?

I've heard people say that it's got a bunch of "security features" Like:
-You can't watch a movie while driving (okay, that's fine)
-You can't change destinations while driving! (uhhhh what kind of nav unit forces you to pull over before you change destinations?)
-You can only do one thing at a time (like while in nav mode no cd, DVD, or radio)
-and there's no way to make the thing think that the car isn't moving because it uses the satellite to judge speed

When the N2 first came out, I did a lot of research on it with the hopes of purchasing one. These were early complaints that I read when it first came out...hopefully they fixed them? IMO the AVIC N1 was a superior unit because you could change destns on the fly, listen to the radio while on nav, and trick the unit into thinking the car isn't moving. The N2 is a nice unit (cause it's expensive) but if I actually had to buy it myself, I'd be looking for a used N1. Nice job on the winning though, damn you're lucky! Also, if I'm wrong please tell me. Because I still do want a Pioneer nav unit.

All you need to do to watch a movie while driving is ground the wire that is supposed to go to the brake.

With the AVIC N1....the N2 uses the satellite to determine if you're moving or not. The only way to get around that is to somehow make yourself invisible to the satelleite....oh wait, then the nav won't work.

i did some searches and there are ways to bypass the dvd lock... but its not as simple as just grounding. and of course i am still considering just selling it.. so we'll see what happens

yup about the n1 vs the n2 with the n1 you just needed to ground the parkign brake. as for the n2 it uses the gyro and the pakring brake feature. there is some theries on bypassing the n2 but i personally wouldnt want to try it untill its a proven way. supposidly there is some prongs you need to sodder togeather to bypass it

i have an n1, which is alomost the same thing as an n2. it has 20 something percent less mapping then the n2 but i can get my moble vidio to work while driving. i love the thing, the gps rocks , the eq is great, and i can even watch da bears while my g/f is shopping in some store i dont want to be in. it saves me some arguments. anyways way to go dude!
