my car has 87K miles on its 3.4
To be honest I cant remember if I ever did the 50K tranny flush. I *think* I had it done at a shop, cant be sure. But anyway I know I'v never personally done the flush myself so... how do I do it on this car? =) I just did an oil change and while I was under there I was staring at the tranny waiting for the oil to drain and it got me thinking. How many quarts of tranny fluid do I buy and what brand do you reccomend? Wheres the dipstick for it? Where do I put the fluid in? I think I read somewhere on here the fuel filter should be changed every 35K? Mine has never been changed, It may not be serious, but what could a fouled up fuel filter do to your car? When I bought my car, I got a K&N filter for it, every oil change I would take it out and blow it out with my air compressor, and this last time I noticed its REALLY dirty and the blowing air through it just isnt working anymore. How are you sposed to clean them? Im getting approximatly 19MPG highway right now, could the above problems be causing that? Or is it because when im on the highway I drive at 75MPH the entire way at 2-2.5KRPMs? Thanks in advance! =) -Jaysin ps. I know I cant spell for poo |

Don't know how to flush the tranny. I know you drop the pan, drain the flued, changed the gasket and fill 'er up, but that's all I know about it. There is no dipstick for our tranny.
Fuel filter should be replaced every 2 years or 30k miles. If you don't change it you will get horrible gas mileage, possibly get your injectors clogged, ruin your fuel pump, etc. DO NOT USE AN AIR COMPRESSOR TO BLOW OUT THE DIRT FROM YOUR FILTER!!! RTFM it says right in there DO NOT USE COMPRESSED AIR TO CLEAN YOUR FILTER. You basically ruined your filter by doing so. It causes the cotton particles to separate or something along those lines. You are suppose to use a garden hose (without pressure) and spray from the inside out. Then you re-oil it after every cleaning. Running around 70-80 mph on the interstate I got about 360 miles to a tank (with a couple gallons left) of gas and I got about 33mpg. So yeah, you need to take better care of your car.

that 33mpg... for a 3.4 or a 2.4? I had a 2.4 in my 98 gagt and I got about 35mpg give or take, but iv never seen more than 25 in my 99 gagt with the 3.4 in it, even brand new.

yea, I once filled mine up with 89 octane, and kept all revs below 2k (it was tough) and got 26 mpg. 33 would be awesome. Panacea, have you changed your fuel filter yourself? If so, how'd you do it. I read on the how-to's that it's just about impossible on a 99-00 because you need a special tool to get the filter off.

I changed my fuel filter once... and I broke the quick-release clip. I will be attempting this later this winter, or this spring. I know that there are two different setups for our cars. One has the quick-release, the other you need a special tool for.
As for my 33 mpg, that was on a 3.4l Grand Am GT (Look to the left of my name).

with my headers, tuning, exhuast, intake and the cruise at 75-80mph I see 32 mpg on highway and 27-28 city. I am not the nicest driver either. Last time I went to Norwalk, did the highway there, made 10 passes down the 1320, drove 30 miles, filled up, still got 31mpg with some hard drag strip miles!

umm changing the fuel filter on a 2000 isnt hard at all. Ive done mine twice now. As for the tranny flush I think there was a thread about a week or 2 ago on how to do this.
EDIT: look at the thread right below this one thats says Transmision service??
