Nitrous Questions

I searched all over and still haven't found exactly what I'm curious about. I bought a NOS dry kit yesterday and plan on installing it this spring. What I'm wondering is what else i should install with it to make it work properly/better. Fuel parts? A new PCM (were can i find one for my 99se?) or should i be okay. I only plan on running a 50 shot. Just curious because I want to get whatever else i need for x-mas.

why did you pick a dry system?

Get some cooler plugs, 180 degree thermostat and an auto-trans interceptor and you'll be happy.

what PACE said.....

NGK TR-6 plugs

make sure it is before the MAF in the system
also make sure to replace you fuel filter..... just to keep problems from popping up being the car is almost 7 years old

I got a good deal thats why i got the dry kit. I already have the 180 thermostat and NGK plugs. I was told to stay away from the trans interceptor, heard they ruin your clutch packs.

And as far as mounting the fogger, before the MAF?? so i don't want to install it in my CAI pipe??? What about removing my MAF screen??

Lastly, As far as blowing my motor, probably not. a 50 shot isn't nothing really. My dad has Nitrous on both of his drag cars and he said I'll have no problem. Its just that he's never installed a system on a fuel injected vehicle.

my trans would not hold the power and shifted like crap until I got the auto trans. I'll bet B will agree. Get the auto trans.

I'd stay away from Descreening the Maf, nothing but bad things can come from that.
With my Zex kit (also dry), I have it down the CAI pipe before the MAF, in the coupler that holds the CAI together, appox here:

might also look at getting an AFPR.
Might look at a PowerTuner to get a V1 and the turn down the timing, can control fuel tables and all that way, or I think they also have a "nitrous" version.

I was thinking about going with a dhp pcm and the AFPR. Wouldn't the dhp do the trick as far as programming.

I regular DHP's got a lot of timing for Nitrous, a 50 shot would be ok with good gas, but I'd be careful not to spray on crappy fuel. Also, I'm almost positive you want to spray after the Maf, before the throttle body. There is a good post about this somewhere, lemme see if I can dig it out.

Ok, check out my thoughts on ZEX systems thread. Defintely spraying after the maf, before the throttle body on the short pipe with the IAT sensor and vacumn line. Spraying before the maf would really mess up the readings. The ZEX dry kit is pretty sexy, it monitors bottle pressure so it knows how much fuel to add based on how much n20 is being delivered. The TPS tap in is very nice as well, no switch to set up.

Exactly too much timing. I'm not sure I'd even risk spraying a 50 shot with the timing, but use a scan tool and watch your knock.
If you spray after the MAF it dosen't see the extra ''air'' and increase fuel.

I just read up on Zex's site... at least for their kit, you spary after the maf, not before it. I don't think a MAF has the capability to read nitrous effectively and compesate with the fuel. Thats why scanning is critical, you've gotta see whats happening with the a/f ratio and adjust your jetting accordingly. Spraying before the maf and hoping for the computer to compensate is dangerous and in-effective. My $.02.

Hmm, just read the mounting instruction again, you are to mount it aftrer the MAF.
Oddly enough PontiacGT2k had it mounted where I did before he got the kit, and I have it there now. Hmm...

The Zex uses the vaccume hoses on your FPR to increase the pressure, one of the main reasons I got the Zex, not sure with a NOS which dosen't have a "Brain Box", I think this is why the AFPR is more important to increase fuel. I also wouldn't leave the MAF alone to adjust, thought it was needed in addition to the "brain box" however.
