Boostin!

hey guys/girls, im getting ahold of a rsm supercharger for 1500$....quite a steal if you ask me....but i was just wondering what everyone thats boosting what kind of plugs you got and what you gapped them at...also....if someone with the rsm supercharger for the 3.4 can take a couple close pictures of the oil line routing and the hoses for the blowoff valve and anything else that involves the smaller tubing for air...i got a pretty good idea of what goes where but i just like to double check ya know...GREATLY APPRECIATED...thanx

Sweet, congratulations! That's definitely a good price for a SC. I use denso iridium IT20's in mine. They are one heat range colder than stock... pretty comparable to the NGK TR6's. Both should be less prone to detonation. The stock plug gap is .060". Denso's iridium plugs come pre-gapped at .044". They don't recommend re-gapping those plugs because it's easy to break the electrode, and thats a pretty good gap for boost anyway. Good place to buy plugs is http://www.clubplug.net , they have pretty good prices and any plugs you want.

It is a turbo setup, but you can see how I did oil and vacuum at: http://groomlakelabs.com/?q=gallery in the "Phase Two" gallery.

Check these photos of my RSM setup. Ill explain a few points on it about the RSM DIRECTIONS and Chiltons Manual.

1. NOTICE MY STOCK BATTERY. RSM will even tell you it will fit, but its a PAIN to get to your terminals. The blue Elbow they supply crushes right up against the positive terminal. It may take a few tries for you to get it to sit right.

2. THE BLUE ELBOW SUPPLIED when used with your stock battery will most likely have to be cut on the side connected to the blowoff valve and slighty notched to make the tight fit. Ive had mine on for over 4 months now and no problems with the connection

3. GET THE RSM TUNE to start out with. Without the MAF used your car WILL DRIVE CRAPPY if you dont have the tune. I had a DHP PCM in while i waited to get the RSM tune in the mail ( i put off sending it and then it screwed me in the end waiting for my PCM to return after i installed the SC) My suggestion, mail your PCM (or get a used one and mail it to RSM) as soon as you get the kit to get them to reprogram it and send it back. They did mine for free since i ordered from them, i dont know where you got yours but see if you can get it for free.

4. DISABLE YOUR FUEL PUMP by removing the relay and crank it for a bit to get the oil cycled thru the SC. Then activate your fuel pump and turn it on. Dont dry start it (my opinion)

5. YOU NEED TO RAISE THE ENGINE YOU DONT NEED TO DO EVERYTHING THE BOOK TELLS YOU. To get to the OIL PAN, we unhooked the engine mounts some wires and raised it up. the chiltons manual said to take off a wheel, remove a bunch of suspension etc... You can get enough room without taking your car so much apart, but be careful, dont force it, and be prepared to spend a bit of extra time under the car to remove the oil pan and also when youve tapped it, it takes some time to get it back up there.

6. DONT HOOK UP OIL LINES TO INCORRECT PARTS LOL. My friend put a line onto somehting that wasnt the oil pressure sending unit so at first we didnt notice. So we had to redo it later. If you have a book for your car you should identify with the correct parts.

7. GET SOME GAUGES. I have Boost and A/F

8. BE PREPARED FOR A TRANNY MASSACRE. My tranny is shot. RSM has a hard shift in thier tune. I would think youre wanting to do the tranny next anyways if youre installing a SC Kit

thanx ALOT man...what do you think if just drove like a normal citizen and didnt beat it a mojority of the time...maybe raced 2 times a week....if that, how well do you think the trans will hold up?...ALSO...there is absolutly no other way to reroute the oil return line to anything else?...maybe a valve cover....somthing, juss tryin to make it a little easier...but awel, ill probably be relocating my battery to the trunk anyways because the girl im getttin the kit from, she dosent have the rsm battery relocation, she left it on the car when she got rid of it, awel...im anxiious to get this in and going, i got a week left to wait and 500 more to go and its all mine...is there anything i should do on ititial startup?....or just let the engine warm up and then drive it....ill also probably be switching to fully synthetic...i heard its better for the charger....just what i heard tho,

-Route the oil feed from the pressure sensor with a "T"
-Route the oil drain to the pan

That is a pretty pain free solution for the "future" and you will likely have no problems. If you halfway do this, you probably will have issues.

-Buy Powrtuner and tune for yourself. Keep the MAF. RSM removes it. If you want to run in speed density mode and be a slow supercharged car, that would be your choice

-Relocating the battery with a Summit relocation kit is pretty easy.

(of course, these are only my suggestions)

I agree 100% with Todd on this. RSM's tune is junk. Get a powrtuner and tune it yourself and put the MAF back in. The car will run better that way and you won't have to worry about the transmission problems with the RSM tune since you can tune it yourself. Relocate the battery... it's just easier that way if you have more room to work with... and that opens up space to add an intercooler later. Same with the oil lines. It needs gravity to drain properly so it should go back to the oil pan, not a valve cover or anywhere else. The oil feed you can get from where the oil pressure sensor is. It's a small cylinder screwed into the front of the block just above and left of the starter motor. You can't miss it.

I agree with you guys too.

Oh, ya... you could use HPTuners

Here's a link to someone who has the MAF reinstalled. A little custom work done to the piping, but looks good and runs good too, based on his dyno! He might be on this site too (IDK)

at that link. Guy has a nice car and it's cool to see he went to the extra effort to make the blower work right. It's just that most of the people on that site sound like idiots the way they type stuff. And they can't get their facts straight either... a stock 3400 is 175hp and 205ft/lbs, and puts down about 142hp at the wheels. That's why I never bother with that site. (It used to be a spin off of the "other" companies website gmpowertalk too... don't know if it's still related or not)

The ony thing that is really different is the shift points, gear ratio, and speed limiter. The trims are dynamic, and is "learned" throught the driving cycles. Just get a package to tune the PCM your self. This will allow you to get the most out of your supercharger...
